What pairing/genre/fandom did you write that you would never have predicted in January?
Pairings (as the focus)
Definitely "I'm Still So Bad at This". It's not complete but it's by far my fav because it was my first fic for the fandom and I put so much thought and effort into it. That and I've always thought I could never write fiction fiction since all my original stories are fantasy.
Did you take any writing risks this year? What did you learn from them?
Everything probably haha! I had this phase earlier in the year where I decided to give myself restrictions/challenges with each fic exchange/fest/projects I joined. One of the harder ones was Sunday Brunch where my personal restriction was NO ANGST.
Morning Call was also really difficult to write because it was supposed to be pointless fun and a huge part of me rejected the lack of character and plot development. The end result was a mess that was neither-here-nor-there and I'm still embarrassed about it. I even threw in a smut scene as kind of an apology to the readers but because it was my first time writing smut without laughing at myself, somehow Yixing and Jongdae just couldn't stop laughing and the whole thing became fluff.
Then there was A Drabble a Day for Lay Day. That was a different challenge altogether. I had to write a different au every day for an entire week and all of them had to be a complete story on their own and under a specific word limit.
I learned a lot of different things with every fic thanks to the wide variety of pairings/genre/style/restrictions I challenged myself with. It helped me a lot in terms of learning what I'm capable of and what I'm comfortable with as well as understanding my values and goals as a writer.
Do you have any fanfic or profic goals for the new year?
More self-indulgent fics! There's always a part of me that stops myself writing for the fun of it, which is why I haven't been updating Chakanim! AU. It turned from a distraction to a verse that I felt the responsibility to "do justice" for and that effectively stopped me from letting myself loose.

My best story of this year:
I'm Still So Bad at This and A New Home. The first because of many reasons mentioned above and the second because despite battling a writer's block amongst so many fic deadlines and personal and academic troubles, the story still turned out really good.

Stand alone: Do It For the Butt
Most fun story to write:
No One is Safe. It was fun coming up with characters Kyungsoo wrote as animals based on the other EXO members. Then I started thinking about what each character meant to Kyungsoo and how they dealt with Kyungsoo's idiosyncrasies.
Dastardly Deceptions. I had so much fun torturing Jongdae hahah! It got to the point that I had to scrap an entire plot development because it would be more Jongdae-centric than kaixing.
Reluctant Farmer Oh Sehun. I wrote it hurriedly in one day but I had loads of fun putting myself in Sehun's shoes and basically nerd-out over Harvest Moon.
Story with the single sexiest moment:
Relieving a Deity's Stress ((well done on writing face-fucking in your first foray into explicit smut, Red))

I'm Still So Bad at This mhmm *sage nod*. Like I said before, I spent the most time with it. And the characters often bother me inside my head, telling me things I didn't need to know but they think I do.
Hardest story to write:
Better than Indifference! Haha! Since it's a gift fic, I had to be mindful of what I wrote, so I couldn't go with my original plan to write incest. But I was (still am) determined to write the sequel so I had to write BtI without any incestual themes while still allowing room for it to happen in the future. I got a lot of feedback saying it's a cute fic and although it makes me happy, I feel very guilty knowing that it will all go down the drain haha ;;
Biggest surprise:
Honestly? Relieving a Deity's Stress. SMFH.
Most unintentionally telling story:
Better than Indifference. Earlier in the year, I had a severe fallout with my sister whom I was extremely close to. The day after I finished and submitted the fic, I had a dream where we made up which, for reasons I won't divulge, is impossible for us. I had a breakdown and it was only after talking it out did I realize that I was unintentionally projecting the kind of (platonic!!!) sibling relationship I craved.

- KAI/LAY. Seriously. I really really thought my first exo fic would be suchen. I didn't even ship them until the kaixingforyou 14/15 fic exchange and in the end, I wrote 3 fics for it.
- CHANYEOL/SEHUN/KAI and CHEN/LAY/SUHO because oh my god polyamory is so hard to write! Congrats Red!!
- CHEN/LAY. I know. I know they're my ult otp. But it's really hard to write them? They need to be PERFECT and i just couldn't see myself contributing anything to xingdae except as a side pairing.
- BAEKHYUN/XIUMIN. I only started shipping them this year haha! It was always xiuhan/baekyeol for me. I'm glad I saw the light.
