Visit to Columbus, OH

About two weeks ago I had the pleasure of visiting a dear friend in Columbus,OH. The 8 hour road trip (sudden memory lapse of Kentucky)accompanied by Celine Dion, Amici Forever and Joyce Meyer (yeah weird combination)finally concluded at meeting up at my friend's place only to go out for a nice dinner at a Puertorrican/Italian place (yum yum Malta India!). We ventured around Victorian Village that night surrounded by houses that are from the Victorian era (duh). The highlight of the evening was the European Cafe where we had some nice Wine and sat down to chat a bit of the old and a lot of the new.

I don't remember what time we got back only that we had quite a bit planned for the next day. Poor Chuchu gave me her bed to sleep in while she took the couch and slept with her adorable cats. I think we were up by 9 am and had breakfast at a nice and simplistic deli called Spinnelli's. My food was delicious by the way.

A good way to start sunny day, driving through downtown Columbus on our way to German Village towards THE BEST PICTURESQUE BOOKSTORE EVER! The Book Loft! 32 different rooms filled with nothing but books. (Tear rolls down eye) It is so easy to lose track of time and really not be able to see everything in full details, however trust me, we went through all the rooms. 4 hours later we resurfaced to the sun outside having spent what felt like a two day adventure in there...still not enough time =P.

Regrouping our thoughts after being sucked in by thousands of books we went back to the apartment complex and dropped off the car and walked down downtown area to experience a bit of the culture. It was very charming indeed to see the small shops with a variety of stores that I have yet to encounter in Atlanta (I am sure they exist, just not as cute). We had Ice Cream from a local shop called Jenis (they make their own flavors) where I am sure we could eat a full gallon of that mango flavor! As we tour down the city we came to a shop that was scented with Candles. Not regular scents, we would smell and quite literally felt our mouths water with some of the smells. Very impressive. My friend Chuchu purchased a tangerine candle scent that was amazing. Continuing on we made it to the ZenCha tea house where we sat down and flavored tea (forgive me I cannot remember which) where I also bought a German tea that has already been served over here twice, very sweet and settles right in the tummy. That afternoon sun made the houses seem from another era (Jean, we have established this already, duh). Back at the apartment we were deciding on a place I haven’t been to for dinner. A tasty Balinese restaurant that was really to die for. (Interesting story of getting lost) after finding the treasure trove we ate (Jean took some allergy medicine and did not realize she grab the box that DID NOT SAY non-drowsy. After taking some bites into a vegetable that smelled like and tasted like meat (I kid you not) I begin to feel content and sleepy, thinking the food must have some hidden magical mushroom.

Good thing we did not go to the theater afterwards because by the time we got back I was so sleepy and couldn’t keep my eyes open. I would have been escorted out of the movie theater for snoring loudly. HeeHee! Next day was a little more laid back as we woke up later and just decided we would go with the flow of the day. Columbus surprising enough as a decent art collection at their museum, sadly better that Atlanta’s “High” which has marvelous space, and yes, wasted space. As small as it is , still very beautiful collection of impressionist, along with other European art and American. We stopped over at the Franklin Observatory to witness butterfly releases. As we soon discovered they are not very smart. Chuchu kept on trying to rescue one trapped by the air near the door, it flew back, I think she was ready to stomp on it after the second time, or third. It was nice to see so many of them big ones flying around. One landed on my shoulder which Chuchu took a photo of…btw where are those photos? =P
After a light lunch we went back to regroup once again. The finally of the night was to go to Johnny Rockets, and then see Wall-e, very well worth the money after all the action disasters I wasted my money on this summer. GO WATCH IT! It has a good message.

We got home and chilled out like old times. It felt like being back in College in a College town. My friend is an Animation student with immense talent and an impressive drive. To see what she is doing is always motivating and the weekend felt like a whole week of inspiration. I look forward to the next time…perhaps we could venture into Cleveland? We shall see. For now that’s the summary. Oh yeah, on my way back to Atlanta I stopped in Kentucky and went to the Colonel Sander’s Museum and ate guess what? Yeah, still not as good as it use to be, however I had a delicious Mocha Frapuchino when I got back to Atlanta that was the best ever. It hit the spot! Two weeks later, already planning what to do next!
