(no subject)
After over a month of struggling to figure out the stupidity I've been facing dealing with Google+ and it's current controversially stupid Naming Policy, earlier today I managed to discover a way to just...DELETE it all.
See, I was invited via email (sent from a friend to my gmail account even) to join Google+. I did so. It was simple, easy, and the feature itself was fairly neat at the time. I wasn't told to look through any sort of policy agreement or anything. It was just effectively an extension of my gmail account that was this new social thing that was like facebook but better.
After about 2-3 weeks of making a post every day or so, usually with a screenshot of something I'd done in one of the games I was playing...suddenly I was getting an incredibly vague error with my posting.
And I mean very vague. "We can'd do that right now. Try again later." or something. After the four or so days of getting that, suddenly I could post again! Yay! And my latest post there is from that period.
Then I can't post again. I get a new error saying "You can't do that because your profile is being reviewed!"
No email. No showing me said policy I was being reviewed FOR. Just an on/off switch. I had to dig around the site once I followed the link to their community and naming policy. Nowhere of which did it say "requires legal, government issued name" in said policy. Just to use the one people call you, and that extra names are to be used in the other/nicknames field.
My G+ name is of course the same as my gmail name. Same as my name here, exception being Zxizaraxii is placed in the last name field (for Athranantilus Zxizaraxii). [Shrug]
Of course, I couldn't find on any of the links throughout the site a "Contact us!" or anything of the sort. Their help section just looped me in circles of "here's x product! Here's why it's awesome!" links.
In the month since I've checked every other day or so for some kind of email, message, or something. Today I delved for 2+ hours through hordes of people on their person-to-person forums or whatever. Pretty much just lots of folks having problems with the naming thing. Half of them were even using their actual given birth/legal names and still banned.
Anyway, eventually I found someone who linked to the link to just outright remove G+ and all related profiles/data from my account. Certainly no links to this spot on the actual site as I'd been browsing it.
So there. I've no wiped myself from it for now. If any of my friends would like to send me a new invite or something in the future I'll probably try again.
