I had a terrible day.

My life seems to be becoming shittier and shittier by the day. Today, being the shittiest.

I'm sure everyone knows by now I'm really poor. I have been taking the bus everywhere. To follow tradition I decided to take the bus to work today. It was my first orientation day at the hospital. It started at 8 and the bus by my apartment leaves at 7:07. I woke up this morning and got ready but thought the bus left at a different time. At around 7:04 I realize I have 3 minutes to run there. I probably looked like a retarded running like a Kenyan to the bus. I did make it in time, but in my haste and novice riding experience, I didn't check the bus number and boarded the bus that would take me to the U-district.

At the Federal way bus terminal I realized this and thought "oh well, I can still just switch to the 181 which takes me to the auburn hospital". A good plan, however, the route is different on weekdays and doesn't come there when it normally does on weekends. I looked up the times and realized I would be about 30 minutes late to my orientation. Around the same time I got a phone call from New Era. New Era is a staffing company that I applied to in desperation for work. They called apologizing for the short notice but they had a job that was paying 10 dollars an hour (terrible to the 16 I was getting at the hospital). This left me in a gambling decision, the hospital job is great, I love what I have to do and it's really good pay, however, it's on call and I'm only working like 15 days out of a month, if that. It's not enough to pay the bills. So I decided that I would ride the late 181 to auburn and go to New Era to take my drug test and then take a bus to the job. This seemed like a good idea until I realized my phone was dieing because I had forgot to charge it. I managed to call New Era before my phone started freaking out and tell them I was on my way, but I was not able to call the hospital and say I was not going to make it (No call no show on the second day of the job).

I take the 181 to New Era. I pass my drug test. Pass my social security check. Pass my criminal background check. Great, now I am informed that there are no buses to the job site in Kent. I talk to the ladies there and have them pull up the bus route back to my apartment so I can take my car and drive to the job. Around this time the owner of the staffing company shows up and says he can drive me home. I politely decline because I already have a transfer pass and I would make it around the time of the job start.

I walked over to the bus stop. Now, like I said before I am a new bus rider, I don't know the routes very well and I sure as hell wouldn't know to think there are two bus stops on different sides of the streets for the directions the buses are going. As I'm waiting there for the bus, I was making small talk with some girl also waiting for the bus when I see the 181 drive past us on the other side. I ask her if the side we're on goes to Federal Way, and she says it doesn't, that's what the other side is for.

After asking for a ride from the owner of the business back to my apartment and talking a bit, I get to my car and realize I have no gas. I have to use the last of my cash to put in a couple gallons of gas to get to the job. After all this work I arrive at the job site.

As soon as I get in, I realize the job sucks. It's easy, real easy, so easy I'd rather do any other job I've done in the past. I hold big plastic bags up to this giant funnel type machine and it drops packing peanuts into the bag. I have to make sure the bag is on correctly or it won't fill up all the way or it comes off and peanuts go everywhere and I look like an idiot. After I fill up a good amount of bags and stack them, I occasionally load a truck full of the bags. I don't know why everyone working there is so content. I can't listen to music and the whole time trying to convince myself all the little plastic dust and smell isn't going to give me cancer. The only bright side is one of my coworkers is kind of stony so he's really nice and normal compared to the other guys who seem to be socially awkward.

After a boring 8 hours it was time to go home. I went out to my car and my keys were locked in.

Oh what a day.
