Dear Sailor:
I hope this missive does not reach you too late, and that you are still in search of inspiration on the questions and scenarios that might be satisfactorally explored in a story written for my pleasures. If, however, you have already begun a thousand words on your favorite hobbyhorse, please ignore the rest of this letter and continue on at your pleasure.
In the general case, I like stories where there's a sense that our characters live in a larger universe than just the three of them. This is especially true of the characters whose actions mean the difference between life and death on a regular basis, as well as those characters whose existence is defined, in part, by shielding themselves from mundanes.
I also like stories with a bit of humor, where it's clear that our three protagonists like each other, and where characters talk to each other (or at least to the third leg of their triangle, if not directly) about issues, not moon about sighing madly to whatever the kids are listening to these days instead of Dashboard Confessional or NIN.
If you can manage a bit of a "case fic" for any of the shows, that would be lovely. If you'd rather do a total relationship story, that's cool, too, although I'm not interested in first time stories for any of the fandoms except Drop Dead Diva.
I like sex scenes that advance the plot or do important relationship work, but I'm not into porn for porn's sake. Most kink is good; no gunplay, breathplay or choking, please. Scat's fine if there's no shit in anyone's face or vagina and they take showers afterward. Watersports are excellent. Crack for crack's sake, is usually fine. (I draw the line at non-magical/non-mutant AUs of shows whose premise depends on such, or inanimate object AUs, like when everyone in the story is an umbrella, for no particular reason.) MPREG is delicious, as are werecreatures, sex pollen, vampires, soulbonding, and the ghosts of dead friends and family trying to enlist us in their battles.
Worldbuilding is the most delicious. It's very difficult to go wrong with worldbuilding.
Please, please, grammar and spellcheck. Poor grammar is about the only thing that could make worldbuilding no good.
Drop Dead Diva
I am All About Deb!Jane. I love that she's pretty and fat and knows it. I love that she's smart and enjoys being smart, since she wasn't before. I love her relationship with both mothers, since they're crackly and complicated. I love her good humor and her viciousness and her ability to randomly break into song. Let's be honest; in the real world, I would totally want to date her, okay?
I also am interested in Jane!Jane. Not interested in Deb!Deb. Hate all Grayson-related romantic developments, because no one ever comes off well in those.
I realize that Tony and Owen never met on the show; posit that they had a platonic or romantic relationship before either met Jane or that they hadn't met, as you like. A vee solution is fine here. My real interest is in seeing Jane get ALL the sexual/emotional satisfaction, and Win At Romance.
P.S. If you are not familiar with the actual legal profession, as practiced in these United States, please do not write any law stuff. The law on this show is ridiculous when it is not terrifying, and it is the one thing about the show that makes me cringe SO MUCH.
Haven
Oh! Oh I love this show and their little faces and I want to smoosh them all together all the time.
I basically love the show as is, and if you could write something like the show, but with more kissing, we would be golden. I love the relationships between the three of them, I love that they trust each other the most, but that still doesn't mean anyone trusts Duke completely or that Duke can depend on Nathan's support, ever. I love the worldbuilding the show has already done, especially ALL of the season two developments, I love the funky way afflictions work, I love the small town-ness of Haven (remember the way Audrey bought baked goods from the wrong shop? Know how everyone goes to the Seagull for a fancy night out?), I just love the whole damn show.
Oh, also, if you wanted to have Vince and Dave EXPLAIN something, that would be awesome. If any old person explained anything at all, that would be the bestest. Ugh, old people, WHY SO SECRETIVE?
Lost Girl
Girl power! Sex positivity! A main character whose power is sex pollen! So awesome!
So, I really liked season one of this ridiculous, terrific show. Season two, I have fallen behind on, because the Dyson Situation is fucking annoying, and I am disappointed that they replaced the Ash. So, you know, if you set something in season 1, we might both be happier, but I am planning on catching up with season two, sometime Real Soon Now.
I like Bo and Lauren's relationship because it seems pretty realistic, where you meet the girl, and you like her, and then you have some sort of misunderstanding and there's fighting about real issues, but you still like the girl, but your friends think she's bad news and, and, and…. Let's just say I've had this relationship, or something like it.
I like the Morrigan because Emannuelle Vaughier is playing a super sexy bitch. Also, I'm interested in what sort of crazy leads a thrall of the light to get involved with the head of the dark.
Have fun and get crazy with this one, if you pick it.
X-Men Movieverse
I mostly know the X Men from the movies, and a little the animated series, and a lot of fic. I'm really open on this one. What I like about Charles and Erik is that they love each other but they are separated by a legitimate idealogical divide which prevents them from continuing a relationship. I think Raven's relationship with Erik, where she's his number two, but, at least the way McKellen played it, I wasn't 100% convinced Magneto respected her as an individual person. The XMFC revelation that she's Charles adopted sister, and he has that same condescension toward her, is sort of fascinating.
A vee situation hinged on Erik here is cool, if that's the way you need to roll. I don't care when/where you set the story. However, if you use some big comics canon stuff, I would appreciate links or footnotes or something so I know what 'happened'.
I am seriously interested in the mutant stuff, and the question of how mutant oppression is intersectional, and the whole politics portion, if you're interested in that. But if you're not, if you just want to deal with the relationship stuff, there's loads of meaty, chewy ISSUES to work through in that too.
Also, also, I would not say no to kidfic here, whether it was a biologically related kid, a student, or one just sort of popped into existence around them. Have fun and go a little crazy here.
