First Thoughts

I've started watching Merlin. I'm halfway through series one and I'm not entirely sure what I think of it. It has its moments, but they beat the character leitmotifs a bit heavily to start (Arthur: an assy tool; Uther: an assier tool who is phobic about magic; Merlin: wants to be a rock superstar; Gaius: cautious about the magic use; Guin: Madame Malaprop; class: a big, big obstacle to getting things done.)

One thing I really do appreciate though is that when people come to Uther and say, "Hey, that new lady or lord who just appeared on the scene is totally planning to kill Arthur, or you, or Morgana?" he always asks them, "Er, why do you think that? Do you have any proof?"

They rarely have a good answer because they've found this stuff out by magic or sneaking around where they don't belong, but I appreciate that Uther would be willing to listen if they, you know, had a reason. I'm wondering when it's going to start occurring to people to start manufactoring non-magic evidence before they tell Uther about others' murderous intent, though.
