White Trash Tuesday- Chapter Sixty-Eight

“Did you get that message from Sean?” June asked.

“Yeah,” Carrie said. June waited for her to say more,
but she did not.

“And?” June prompted.

“What?”

“Did you call him back?”

“Oh. No,” Carrie said.

“Oh.”

“You think I’m mean, don’t you?”

“No. I just want us all to be friends again, that’s
all.”

“I’m not ready to be friends with him yet,” Carrie
said. “I do think he’s a good person and I do want to be
friends with him again eventually, but not yet. You can
still be friends with him, though.”

“I know.”

“Look, I know that he’s hurt right now, but I’m trying
to get over the relationship too, and I need my space to be
able to do that.”

“Don’t worry, I understand,” June said.

June saw Sean when she was walking to class one day.
They saw each other from a distance, and they both stopped
walking when they were at the same part of the sidewalk.
June felt a queasy excited feeling in her stomach when she
saw him.

“Hey,” she said, smiling.

“Hey,” he said. She almost gave him a hug, but then
decided not to.

“How are you?” she said.

“I’m okay. How are you?”

“I’m good.”

“How’s Carrie?”

“She’s okay, too.”

“Good.”

“I hope you don’t feel bad that she’s not talking to
you right now. She’s not mad at you or anything. She just
needs some time to herself right now to get over the break
up.”

“I see,” Sean said.

“I’d love to stay and chat,” June said, “but I have to
get to class.”

“Well, do you want to go out for coffee some time so we
can chat?”

“Um, sure,” June said.

“When?” he asked.

“I don’t know. I’ll send you an e-mail later, okay?”

“Okay.”

“Seeya.”

“Seeya.”
