Title: “Smooth”
Author: Jezunya
Prompt: #59 Suspicion
Word Count: 183
Rating: K
Summary: When the prince of the Fire Nation joined their group, Sokka thought he knew what to expect.
Author's Notes: Inspiration stuck while watching a rerun of “Jet” the other day. The clash between Sokka & Jet is much like what I expect would happen between him and Zuko…except that Zuko isn’t smooth and two-faced like Jet ;)
When the prince of the Fire Nation joined their group, Sokka thought he knew what to expect. He was prepared for someone skilled in politics and manipulating, someone smooth and suave and silver-tongued. He was a prince, after all.
He half-expected Katara and Aang to take to him the way they had to Jet, with his flattery and talk of justice and great warrior skills, though he hoped they both had enough sense to keep their distance from the firebender at least.
He didn’t need to hope when it came to Toph - she made her feelings toward the scar-faced boy quite clear when she sent flying rocks his way whenever he was in range.
Sokka felt well prepared; he had all his defenses in place, and he was already on the look out for the tell-tale signs of the more gullible members of their group being taken in by the fire-breather’s lies. He knew what to expect and he was ready.
What Sokka didn’t expect, however, was for Zuko to blush and stumble over his words the first time Katara smiled at him.
