"Katara?"

She mentally swore, smiling warmly as she buried herself in blankets, having just snuck back into the bedroom she was sharing with Aang.

"Where’d you go?"

"Couldn’t sleep," she mumbled, rolling over, and turning her back to him. "Went for a walk, so I’m good now."

"Oh, okay."

She almost cursed his naiveté, but at the same time she was eternally grateful for it. Because now matter how tightly she closed her eyes, no matter how desperately she tried to erase the experience from her mind, she could not forget how excruciatingly wonderful it had been-and how it always was-to share Zuko’s breath and feel his powerful hands all over her body.

At first, he is hesitant to align himself with her, especially with what transpired in the caverns under Ba Sing Se. But now he is on nobody’s side but his own, and there is a common enemy before them who will kill if given the chance. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, or so they say.

Their opponent strikes first, a dazzling display of azure fire erupting across the area. A fantastical wall of water, dousing everything in its way, defuses the inferno briefly. She strikes again, and this time he defends, shoving his ally behind him as sparks of blue and orange collide, sibling rivalry at its best.

She laughs, amused and far from fearful at the double team she faces. Another bolt soars at them, and this time they both deflect it in a mix of flame and liquid. Their eyes lock together, and words not spoken reach listening ears. The Princess must be defeated, and complete cooperation is the only way.

Katara shifts into a different stance, and Zuko follows suit soon after. Arms poised and ready, they stand in ways most beneficial to their bending yet there is a distinct similarity in posture. Azula laughs, mocking their futile effort and prepares another dangerous summoning.

At once, whips of fire and water slithered forward, slicing through the lightening, stopping it, and landing a blow on its creator.

Katara knows he learned the move from watching her, but it doesn’t stop her battle thought process, and they strike again before the Princess regains her composure. She swears at them, damning their lives to an early death, but they pay no heed to curses from a wicked, unruly woman.

The antagonist rises to her feet with anger burning in her flashing, golden eyes. The promise of destruction and a slow demise radiates as she attacks again, but something is off. The lightening is easily dodged, and now Katara and Zuko stand with a caged beast between them. She readies her weapon, and the sparks sprinkle on the ground beneath her feet.

Fire slashes, water slashes. They need not speak; they just know.

An unholy cry echoes in their ears, and Katara cannot help but cringe. Without waiting, Zuko initiates another blow, and his partner is quick to follow. She is frozen at her knees, and a blaze jets at her face. Without choice, she falls forward, hands slamming against the ground-hands that are quickly iced in place. She is trapped where she stands in an awkward position, one that would fill her with embarrassment if it weren’t only her brother and a peasant watching. There is ash around her as she stands in the embers of her defeat.

"I’m done with your games, Azula."

And, with a juxtaposition of her water and his lightening, the Princess falls.
