Sunset Udon

Dinner alone does me good, so then if it were with two. But dinner with a group of very hungry friends -- old and new -- is simply unbeatable.

The shabu shabu place was like a beehive and so we detoured to a standard Japanese restaurant at Little Tokyo. The vincinity is charming: small and just moderately fetishised, which is rare for a place like LA where the Kodak Theatre adorns itself with gigantic Hieroglyphic pretenses and plaster elephants (does the mammal exist in Egypt??). It was Wendy's last night here in LA before flying back to Virginia tomorrow, and so Lindsay, Sam, Sam's roomate Lauren and I had been looking forward to this night out. Unfortunately Seth, our coursemate/neighbour and his wife could not make it or otherwise the picture would be quite complete.

We feasted on our udons, "Edible Wild Grass Plant Rice," tempuras, tofu steaks complete with fries and of course, the trusty Asaki. My face is of a disgustingly darker shade of maroon when I drink after the sun-torched LA sun, so photos shown here must be discrimiate. After dinner, we adjorned to the Japanese supermarket, not without first making a detour at this cute store where I bought Wen a birthday hat, a "dead" rubber duck for our bathroom, and Sam has some purchases of exciting non-material worth.

(It seems like the plan is underway to find Lindsay a boyfriend and Sam some excitements. I'm so glad that I'm not part of anyone's plannings.)

Udon must be fashioned with Gelatos. And so we did to a highly recommendable place around Silverlake for some good chocolate martini, almond figs, pistacchio and greentea lavender scoops. Lauren told us about her 9 and 1/2 wks cross-country cycle and we further discussed how Rosemary's Baby was not scary at all, mixed in with our thoughts about next week's readings.

Now that I'm full, there's the chocolate cake that I'm desiring in our fridge. Maybe if I can get through the end of The Saga of the Volsungs, which we have to read for Alchemy class and wherein infanticide, fratricide, and all kinds of incest abound, I'll schematise.

Meanwhile, photos are here on flickr!
