Tanaka Koki interview translation - Myojo March 2010
~All about the music~
The first CD I bought was the hip hop ground
Buddha Brand’s ‘Ningen Hatsudenshyo’. Probably, I think there was 2… Up till then, I used to get around thinking ‘Ahh, hip hop is really cool…’ and my friends would lend me what they had. But after buying that CD, I would hear it all the time in my dreams on the train. Well, that’s cause it’s the only CD I had so I listened to it over and over until it was worn out. So I guess you could say this is the song that really got me into hip hop. Maybe it’s fate.
Next, I remember listening to
Rize’s ‘Why I’m Me’ when I was in junior-high. Just before our third graduation ceremony, I was in a band with my friends and we thought ‘Let’s do this! Graduation live!’ and practiced like crazy. I happened to have a guitar so I took over the guitar part, but I screwed up on the F chord…so I borrowed a bass from the guy on drums and ended up playing that. Even though we practiced like hell, on the actual day I had started a job, and we never ended up doing it. Not only that, but the guy who leant me the bass went on exchange studies straight after graduation so I’m still borrowing it…kind of, heh.
Even now, I really love Rize, always have. In particular I always listen to
‘Stand Up’ when I’m going to the gym. It’s a song about ‘Believe in yourself! Stand up!’ but I listen to it while I’m doing my muscle training and I suddenly feel like “Shit! I’m not gonna lose! Like hell! I’m gonna stand up and do this!” My gym mp3 player is full of these kind of pumped up songs.
Ah, speaking of getting pumped up, before I go out for action at our concerts, I always listen to 2-3 songs that really get my tension up so I can go out and face the stage. Kaiki Gesshoku* is a group made from people who are famous in the rock and hip hop worlds, but out of their stuff I will definitely listen to ‘BUSTERS’**. And then I listen to American metal like Korn and Limp Bizkit - Just heaps of hard, violent rock, so in the dressing room I go a bit nuts head banging and then I end up performing with whiplash (lol).
Ahh, I thought of something else! Once when I was in the bath I sang
Tsui Rose-San’s song ~ Hey! Ahirunrun***…you know, that CM song? Yep, I float around in the bathwater with my sparkling little duck. On days when I float my duck around in the bath… Well anyone would want to start singing ‘runrun’ right? It’s so much fun that recently, I flattened my duck’s batteries…
Notes:
*A group made up of someone from Zebra, and some other group...couldn't find anywhere to listen to their stuff, sorry guys.
**One Life/Busters, in case you want to try looking for it.
***WARNING. IT WILL GET STUCK IN YOUR HEAD. Ahirunrun, ahirunrun... *shoots self*
So Koki and I are almost a perfect music match (You let the team down, Kame, you let us down), minus a bit of hip hop. Korn, Limp Bizkit, RIZE! YEW! GO RIZE! *cough*. Ahem. Also I gave myself whiplash from headbanging/dancing like a total spazz just over a week ago. I think we could be great friends in another life.
So anyway...who has been the closest match for you so far?
Also, Koki in the bathtub with a battery operated duck. Suspicious much? And the thought of a grown man splashing around in the bathtub singing THAT, well, I didn't know whether to LMFAO or scream and tear out my hair XD GOD I NEED PHOTOSHOP.
