Okay, my little virtual journal! I've got a good one this time!
Today wasn't any different from the norm: got up late, rubbed my eyes, played a video game (because I'm a junkie and I don't care), and then picked up a call from a really good friend. Nothing too upsetting to my daily routine, right?
Well, I couldn't have been more wrong.
I picked up the call, and sure enough, my good friend was on the other horn. Immediately, I was delighted until I heard my friend mention company was over. Now, that wasn't a big alarm in my mind--not yet--until I heard this other person speak.
And oh my Cosmos...
Not only was this person already grating upon my horns, but they had the audacity to immediately open up the conversation with deliberate insults to my nationality. I know my home country has a bad rep at times, and I know such insults are common nowadays, but c'mon they still hurt! That's all this person based their facts upon: extremely biased stereotypes. They didn't even wait to get to know me or even settle down and assess that I wasn't what those stereotypes fitted. They insulted my tastes, my nationality, my culture; everything.
And you want to know what was the worst of it?
They weren't sorry for a thing.
They were so pretentious, so "right" in their ways, that I was halfway tempted to hang up the call if it were not for my friend being on the line as well. I love my friend, I do (platonically, of course), but my patience was drastically tested today. I've been known as a very patient individual (hurr hurr, shut up those out there laughing), even to the point where it lasts months, but I have little tolerance for those who claim to be intellectuals yet have the grace and mindset of a common ass.
I think what really set me off was how they stuck to their little "assumptions" than rather listen to someone who actually LIVED in the country. Go figure.
I don't want to hurt my friend by telling their friend off, but if push comes to shove, I will have to make a sacrifice and I hope to the Cosmos they will forgive me, for I will show none to their friend.
TL;DR
Upset friend is upset
