I've gotten the ball rolling by e-mailing some local schools about their open substitute teaching lists and lo and behold. At my old high school, the new principal this year just happens to be my old principal when I was a freshman. Apparently he went out of retirement. My prospects have suddenly gotten more delicious.
In other notes of interest, I've finally checked out World's Deadliest Warrior and managed to catch the Mafia versus Yakuza episode. I have to say that I'm definitely impressed by the show and would have to agree with the verdict of the Mafia as the winner. Yakuza does have its cool factor but at the end of the day if you give these two to their tactics....let's be honest, in reality, that is....Yakuza will grab their gear and head off to the intended meeting point which the Italian Mafia would have scoped out already and have set to blow with explosives. Ultimately shiesty hit and run tactics and car bombing is a pretty effective tactic by the Mafia. With that said, in actual combat, unless a Yakuza gets in for close-close combat, Mafia guns would lay out an ugly waste at distances. Brutal, vicious, but certainly not as flashy and all fancy-schmancy as some of the Yakuza that are trained in martial arts and even then, many Yakuza members are not trained in martial arts like stereotypes insist. Generally speaking, most of their grunts are just as averagely trained in fighting as the grunts in the Italian-American Mafia with guns and fighting dirty with blunt weapons. This doesn't necessarily mean though that the Yakuza wouldn't utilize their best in a fight but if one looks at even a hand to hand combat scenario alone, take for instance Ultimate Fighter, then usually the guy that just runs in and tackle the guy down with continuious punches to the face generally wins more than your average black belt with a lot of flipping and dodging.
I'll admit, I do like cool looking backflips and twirly things as much as the next guy but all in all it just takes too much time to perfect those skills and for the effort, you could just toss a guy a sawed off shotgun or a baseball bat and make quicker work under pressure and with less training to make either one a deadly weapon. Still, a sawed-off shotgun to the face is pretty effective, kudos to you, La Cosa Nostra
