So. Back in December of 2007, after my dad's accident, I did a lot of thinking. There was one thing that my dad had said in the hospital that really stuck in my head. When he was still fully paralyzed, and the physical therapist asked him "what would you like to do" (expecting to hear- "walk" or "feed myself" etc...) my dad said "play golf". And the therapist was so completely thrown by that, because, well...he wasn't expected to ever be able to play golf again. And all I could think of was What If. What if I was paralyzed tomorrow? Was there something I would regret not having done? When I was telling my dad about my Costa Rica trip, he kept saying "that's the kind of trip I always wanted to take". And now he may never get to do that trip. I didn't want to live my life full of regrets and what ifs. So. I dubbed 2008 The Year of No Regrets. And I promised myself that if an opportunity came, I would take it. No matter how scary it was.
And now that the year is over, I am making myself a book to commemorate my amazing year. So many things, some small, some giant, but almost all are things I would have chickened out of otherwise. So for that, I can thank my dad.
And now I present...
Let my love of PBR out of the closet (and swallowed my pride and asked a cowboy to sign my boob)
Went to my first Rodeo
Rode the mechanical bull...in Texas no less!
Bit the bullet and booked the Costa Rica trip I spent the past 5 years talking and dreaming about
Costa Rica...
Costa Rica...
Rode a swing that was really a vine. A vine that was thankfully much stronger than it looked.
Ziplined through the jungle
Survived the hellish drop of the Tarzan Swing
Soaked it up in the Hot Springs - all the way up to 106 degrees!
Danced on a bar
Embraced commitment
Made the return to Vietnam
Ate crocodile!
Trekked through the jungle in Bali
Let nature do the healing after sliding down a mountain during my trek in Bali!
Ate a Balinese delicacy...
A fish's eyeball!
Rode an elephant
REALLY rode an elephant!
Ate food slaughtered and cooked in the dirt
Endured a balinese spa experience...complete with sitting naked on a chair while a woman chucked buckets of water over me
Somehow my bobsledding pictures didn't show up here. Weird. Oh well- I went bobsledding! yay!
