According to recent studies, boy's names are more popular than girl's names in most states. So if you're looking to give your child a name that will stand out, you might want to consider naming them after a male celebrity or character from a popular movie or book. Or, if you're feeling patriotic, you could choose a name from one of America's founding fathers. No matter which name you choose, be sure to keep in mind the trendiness of the name and the popularity of the gender in the state where your child will be living.
As you might suspect some states are more biased than others. When it comes to the names of boys and girls working-class or lower-middle-class families have a chance to raise their boys' names above their girl's, which isn't always possible for middle and upper classes.
Australia: The country that time forgot?
In this new image from BuzzFeed, I wouldn't swap places with any generation not named after the local fox. Some Australians might say their country was founded by the Greeks or that it has its roots in Britain, but these often tend towards conspiracy theories and multiculturalism rather than fact.
Over at BuzzFeed however, we have a different view of things: Australia is not where time forgot women, believing instead that 'as much as boys are more likely to be named after Australian celebrities like Steve Irwin and Crocodile Dundee, girls were named after beach -blanket animals like Kylie Minogue and Lucy Lawless.
Interestingly, while Australian boy's names are currently out of style today (thankfully) the inevitable collapse in popularity is imminent for girl's beach-animal based names as well. We have rarely seen better naming trends than this one!

America: Land of the free, home of Rockies
In old Hollywood movies, it was common for characters to be named after their parents or siblings. This was often followed by the character's surname. Examples of this include Popeye, Fatty Arbuckle, Wilt Chamberlain, and Ginger Rogers. Similarly, in kid's movies, it is common to see a scene where a boy's name was inspired from his parents or brother
