Oh my, these are lovely fragments, and tied together so well by the postcards (YAY ROS). I love Ruth, come and gone and come again, in three year gaps, like some compulsory anniversary - and the picture of her home gone to ruin is heartbreaking. Malcolm, by the sea and listening to the radio, of course. And the surprise of the last scene, wow!

what's truly foreign is traitor, because loyalty is ingrained, deep, deep, impenetrable. - I love the ambiguity of who exactly is traitor here. (I'm delighted with either but I do sort of hope it's Harry.) Brava.

YAY ROS. So glad the characterizations were alright; Ruth will always be heartbreaking and my Malcolm is so averse to the 2012 Olympics, lol. And I can do surprise. WOOT.

Aha, you picked up on that. I love ambiguity. \o/

So this was BRILLIANT. My gosh, you are an amazing writer. And can I just say...

what's truly foreign is traitor, because loyalty is ingrained, deep, deep, impenetrable.

He doesn't know Tom had done the same - followed a pattern, a train track that ended in derailment. A heavier shotgun in his hands.

THIS. I LOVE the tie in with Tom and the early days of the show, especially since Lucas trained him. It's just such a beautiful circle and shows how tragic these two can be.

This fic made me even more excited for S9. lakjwroeu!

Thank you! I knew you'd like that comparison, and if this ever were to happen, I can really imagine Lucas going a similar way to Tom. Because I see more similarities than Lucas will ever have to Adam. Though there are similarities there too.

S9.OMG, TEN DAYS. YOU DON'T EVEN KNOW WHAT'S IN STORE. Oh god, I'm so nervous.

OHMYGOSH. When you said you'd killed off someone major, I DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD BE HARRY!!! How could you???

(Actually, ignore that, because it made for a FANTASTIC fic.)

AHAHA I TOLD YOU!! And I can do that because I am totally convinced that Lucas would slip and leave the service because of all the crap with Harry and then plot his revenge. Yes. I sort of just want him to stop being so calm all the time. It's disconcerting. lol.

And thank you! *bows*

Not sure I can see that myself. Maybe before Connie’s revelation that it was her who sold him out to the Russians, not Harry, but now? Not so much.

But yes, I'm totally with you on the 'too calm' thing. It worked with Ros (Ice Queen and all that), but her breakdowns made it better. If that makes sense.

Idk, I think there's still a lot of mistrust between them. Hm.

Yes, I totally agree with you about Ros, she held it so perfectly in check but when she did break down it was shocking and stunning. I think it could be similar with Lucas, because it's all so deeply internalized. I just want him to get truly angry at something for once (can he properly yell at Harry like Tom used to? lol).
