I hate feeling inadequate.
So, birthday was this past week. Celebrated with the family on Sunday, along with having a superbowl party. Since little Lexi's is January 29th and Jacob's is the 3rd, I have to now share the special occasion. Ironically enough, Jacob was turning 2 and Lexi was turning 7, and I turned 27 (on the 2nd), so the cake had exactly the right amount of candles for all of us. Got a 30 dollar gift card to Target from Grandpa and Virginia and a 25 dollar gift card to Starbucks from Barbara and David. I've gotten a Starbucks card from Barbara and David for the past 3 years. I'm not joking. Possibly more. I'd like to know that I'm worth more thought than a Starbucks card.
Monday was my birthday. Sarah sent me a text first, then Holly just a few minutes later. Mom was actually the third to wish me a happy birthday, after I had to poke and nudge her in the bathroom. The kids were good to me at school. The previous week I had only asked that for my birthday they had good behavior. And they did (especially after one student warned the idiot of the class that "All Ms. B wants is good behavior today". It was rather funny).
Darren texted me by the end of third period, and we made plans to see Revolutionary Road. I went and picked him up directly after work (since I only work half days, I'm done before noon) since he lives closer to the school I'm at. We headed back to my house where I changed and ate some lunch. Mail came, and Holly sent me a birthday card with a 20 dollar gift card to Wal-mart and a sexy cowboy birthday card. :D Then we went off to the movies. God, what a depressing movie! Very well acted, but so very down-hearted. After we trudged over to Barnes and Noble for a bit. Of course, the whole time he has still not wished me a happy birthday, which was bugging the fuck out of me. I poked and prodded him, still no words. Stupid, stubborn man. I cut it close getting him home. I dropped him off, still no happy birthday. I figured fuck, could it get worse? I wasn't two blocks from his apartment when my phone rang and it was him.
"Hey."
"Hey. What's up?"
"Oh, I just figured I'd say happy birthday."
I pursed my lips with half a smile on my face. "Thanks."
"Have a good dinner."
"Bye."
Slid in the door at home, and come to find out the parentals had been calling. Well um, it didn't go through, even though I tried to call you. We headed off to Frugatti's. I was dissapointed in the service. I go there every year for my birthday. We didn't even get water, but we got our drinks. I think dinner was just weird without Holly there or Gabriel, Aunt Cathy, and David. But Aunt Cathy was in Italy, and David had Basketball, as well as Gabriel. But Gabriel did mention to send me a text wishing me a happy birthday. Parents got me 50 bucks and a nice dress shirt for work.
The week passed by most uneventfully. Trent forgot, but send me a late belated happy birthday text. Mom brought back my birthday present from Italy from Aunt Cathy and the gang--a gorgeous leather purse she picked up in Pisa.
Friday was fantastic, except for the middle of it. And I say that because for the the middle part of the day, it was complete bollocks. Sarah and I had plans to see Push for my birthday. Mom and Dad go out to dinner, I'm waiting at home to meet her. Start my car--yeah doesn't start, and I seemed to have flooded the engine, the blasted old thing. And Mom and Dad both have cars gone. And because I think he's psychic sometimes, Darren called, and basically was my savior for my shitty afternoon. So he picked me up and we met Sarah at the movies. The guy doing tickets was an idiot, and it took forever. Then of course, I'm a twat, and I bought my ticket, and Sarah got one for me already. So I go back outside in the cold, where the ticket takers have only TWO lines open on a fucking friday night and then they break one of the machines. And instead of just opening another line, they sit and fix it, and it takes FOREVER. They then open a new one, and that's broken, too. Darren even comes outside and I finally have to fill out this paperwork to refund the ticket, and I'm venting like you wouldn't believe when I go back inside and he's just cracking up laughing at me. So then I go to get popcorn and soda and junior mints, because after all that shit I needed it, and THERE WAS NO SMALL CUPS AND SHE HAD TO GO IN THE BACK BOXES TO GET MORE. I seriously by then wanted to shoot someone. We finally get to the theatre and walk in and Darren's like "Let me get the door because knowing you, you'll drop something and spill it and then blame me and you'd have to go buy more." Which prompts Sarah to bust a gut laughing and I frankly don't calm down until we sat for a few minutes. The movie was AWESOME. Go see it, you'll love it. It's fantastic. After that, Darren and I walked Sarah to her car, and then we headed back to his. We then went to Borders. I picked up the new Patricia Briggs book, Bone Crossed, and after awhile he dropped me off at home.
The wedding of my cousin Curtis and his fiancee Ashlie was Saturday. The wedding itself was nice. Ryan, my other cousin and his best man, forgot when to go up and do the reading, and the priest, Father John, had to finally go, "And now Ryan, the best man, will do the first reading." It was rather funny. Afterward I finally found Erica, who brought her brother with her to the wedding. Erica is one of Holly's best friends. Erica is the instructional aide in the classroom that Ashlie teaches in. The reception was at the Seven Oaks Country club, which is something straight out of Gilmore Girls. It didn't start raining till most of us were already there. I think some of the outdoor pictures got ruined because of it. But damn, did it come down that afternoon. The food was great, and it was fun to see a lot of people get drunk, dance and have a good time.
Yesterday I did absolutely nothing except read and play halo. I wasn't feeling too hot. :D
And now, with my day off, I'm here.
edit: I am also a total idiot and forgot to mention that Sarah got me the most hillarious card and a gift certificate to the movies. I told you Friday was just evil! Well, except for Chris Evans. :D :D :D
