Who says that drinking needs to be involved? To me, a partner or two in crime as company is all that is needed. It could be along the lines of trying a new extreme sport (I once went hang-gliding, and I had to do it rather spontaneously or else I wouldn't do it, and no alcohol was ever involved), taking some kind of fun class (athletic, educational, or artsy), or going to some kind of event you normally wouldnt do. Sometimes the extra risk does make it enjoyable, but like everything, within reason (sounds like an oxymoron as I write this).

Are you still in the Boston area? I remember my senior year in college, two of my friends (who were from the NYC region) wrote out a list of everything they wanted to see in the Boston area (mainly touristy historical things) and did those things instead of all of the booze-oriented events. I joined them on most of those outings when I wasn't busy with work. They enjoyed it. It was something new and different and quite a few memories were made in the process. Maybe you could try something like that and see if you can get another person or two to join you (always fun in groups)

Good luck with this, and happy new year!

Well, they were talking specifically about adventures of the bar/nightclub/scandalous variety, but adventures in general are worth looking at for sure. Finding good company for such adventures is probably the hard part. But when it comes to a class for instance, you don't really need to bring someone. I've been seriously thinking about a cooking class, considering how little I know about it. Travel is high up on the list too. Probably no death-defying-stunt-type adventures for me though.
