Good news at last

I suppose when the Dean of the college writes to personally congratulate me on achieving tenure, that makes it official?

:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

It's been a pretty sure thing since December, when the college voted on it and sent it up to the provost, and it's been an almost entirely sure thing since April, when I was invited to a job interview at a really good university, and the head of my department was able to find out for me that I was going to get approved for tenure here, and then it passed the provost's office in May anyway. (My university was also willing to give me a nice raise and a bribe retention bonus if I promised not to go on the interview, which I thought was weird, so I went on the interview anyway even though I will now get neither the raise nor the bonus. Nor the job, since they preferred someone else, but I don't think I really want to move to State College right now anyway.)

It still hasn't been rubber-stamped by the Board of Trustees, but like I said, if the Dean's willing to congratulate me on it, I figure it's worth a public announcement. Which is such effing good timing, because with three major article and/or proposal rejections in the past month, I have been feeling pretty damn incompetent around here.

But now they have to keep me anyway. :D

yay!, academia
