Movie #13 Mysterious Skin

Jan 30, 2010 19:43

A teenage hustler and a young man obsessed with alien abductions cross paths, together discovering a horrible, liberating truth.

Directed: Gregg Araki
Starring: Joseph Gordon-Levitt

I wanted a movie to prove how much acting range JGL has after seeing him being the indie/dorky/cool guy in (500) Days of Summer and was told to watch this movie. I wasn't prepared for that storyline and I felt sick about what that poor kids had to act. But I did get to view how good of an actor JGL is, he has become one of my top 5 for sure.

Mysterious Skin was definitely going to the shock value of child molesting, but I could tell where the movie was going since the beginning. Although it showed how it is so many of the times (the molestor getting away with it and the kids being fucked up when they grow up) I really didn't like it. Something was missing for me and I wouldn't watch it again to be honest.
