Long Time No Write
So, its been a while since I've updated everybody. Its been a very busy couple of weeks. I had a take home Advanced Micro test that I picked up on the 27th and was due on Monday so that took up a good part of my weekend. Plus, I had a Molecular techniques test last night that I had to study for once I turned in the Adv. Micro test.
Things are good here. I have been working in the lab trying to get Agrobacterium to grow. Its a bacteria that infects plants in the root system and causes tumor like structures. The problem is that the cultures are either not viable or very, very slow to grow. I have been trying for a couple of weeks and still don't have a good culture. I have contacted a couple of other people looking for a new sample but no luck yet. Hopefully, I will find one soon. I need to get moving since my rotation is over November 18. I even CYA'd myself by growing a Pseudomonas culture from another student that should definetely be fiable and that is growing beautifully after less than 24 hours. So its not my technique, its got to be the sample. I have also been working on an assay that measures the ability of an organism to convert acrylamide to acrylic acid. Its a tedious process but I seem to be having luck getting the hang of it. I'm simply perfecting my technique at this point. Having gotten this assay down makes me feel better about not getting any growth on my plates.
Mom and I are meeting in Columbus for a Montgomery-Gentry concert tonight. I'm so excited. We go to one each year and I've been dying to see them. I decided that with gas prices the way they are I'm just heading home after the concert and spending the weekend in Americus. I already have multiple events to attend, lunch with Robin from the Bureau and then softball games in Dublin to see Ashlyn play.
I've been hanging out with a group of people that I met through a guy I've been out with some lately. We all went to the Vortex in Little Five Points last night to send off two guys that were in town on a job and are now being sent to Philly. I was really beginning to like Matt and Tobby so I'll miss their crazy antics. Enjoy Philly guys and call me if you need info on DC. As for my date, well its all very casual right now and I'm just enjoying hanging out with him. Not much to report other than that so.... More later.
