So one week down, three years and 51 weeks to go. This week was not so bad. I haven't gotten into a real schedule yet but i expect to have one down by the end of next week. I spent some time in Dr. Pierce's lab observing what experiments are being done. I worked with one of the other students on making reagents and media on Friday afternoon. While I know have to make both and the basic procedure to fix them correctly, I still have to prove that I know what I'm doing or else I won't be able to work in the lab. I also attended a lab meeting at 8 am so that I could see what happens in these meetings. I have to attend a radiation training session in september and a hazardous waste one on Wednesday to be able to work in the labs at school.
As for classes, I think that my molecular lab class is going to be lost of work in the lab and outside the lab with keeping my notebook up to date and writing lab papers. I think I'm enjoy my seminar class since each week will be different and I only have to read a paper to prepare for class. Advanced microbiology should be an interesting class and probably a bit hard but I think I can manage to pull a good grade.
Marta is the big issue for me. I have to leave so early to make the train and get to school on time. That makes for early mornings on Wednesday and Friday. I think I'm just going to pick a time to get up each morning that works for my earliest day and get to school at basically the same time each day and work on readings or literature searches. This will make for a couple of really long days but if I have to do it one day a week I suppose that I can do it five days a week.
More later.
