Sanctity of marriage my ass. 50% of the marriages in this country FAIL. 50% of those who get married, get divorced. Many of those who are still married are not happy. And Bush wants an amendment to the constitution so that this sacred bond that fails more often than not can be protected from the unholy homosexual. Because that's "what the people want". That's bullshit. The desires of the few, the old, and the loud outweigh the real desires of people. Plus, you get more taxes taken out if you are married. So, what is the real motivation? Could it possibly be his own religious beliefs?
He wanted to get rid of "frivolous" lawsuits in the medical industry. My question: If someone needs their leg amputated and the doctors first amputate the wrong leg resulting in that person having no legs, is a lawsuit for that frivolous?
He also said we had the world's best health care. That got some boos. We spend more per person on health care than other countries, yet we have higher infant mortality rates and a lower life expectancy than other countries. We are also one of only two high income industrialized nations that does not have some form of universal health coverage. Bush wanted to make some tax allowances for people to be able to buy their own health insurance and allow small businesses to ban together to collectively buy health insurance making it much more affordable for them to do so. We will see how successful that becomes.
He also said he had a plan for 23 million (I may be off on the exact number) dollars to support drug testing in public schools (for the children's futures). I've always hated that philosophy of making schools the parents. This was after he said that drug use in the schools has gone down in the last two years.
In addition, he wanted to expand the No Child Left Behind Act in funding and years children need to meet requirements. He wanted to do so much for the children . BUT, an action that he took after the speech was finished may indicate that he could really care less. After the speech, Bush went around and signed autographs and received comments from older people (I'm assuming many are legislators) for several minutes. Right before the door, there was a group of children who wanted to meet him, shake his hand, or get autographs. When he came to this group, he was suddenly in a hurry to exit and did so. He spent almost no time acknowledging their existence, when he can spend all that time for those who have political swing. What a dick.
Arg, I wanted to kick him a few times during the State of the Union address, and laughed out loud other times. He is such a smug SOB sometimes. All I can do is hope that he doesn't get elected another term. I think it would be a good thing if he was in office again.
