craziness

This week has been absolutely crazy. I am going to take a commercial break from wedding stuff to unload here.

1. Love - I love calling Ryan my husband, although I still find myself all the time saying fiance first and then correcting myself :) We were so homesick for each other this week that yesterday we decided to meet halfway between Durham and Greensboro at a random restaurant in the middle of nowhere. It was about a 90-100 minute drive for the both of us but so worth it. The food was delicious at Little Italy. We stood out like a sore thumb and even the locals called us out on being out-of-towners, but it was so fun. Bittersweet to leave, that's for sure.. but very romantic to have that story to tell :)

2. School - Primary care is NUTS. Holy crap, I am so, so, so busy at that practice from 9 a.m. on. I usually get there around 8:20 to preview the charts for the day and look up anything I don't understand/know about. Then the circus starts. I've seen some pretty cool/crazy stuff this week.. a necrotic toenail that needed complete removal, a 74-year-old man in for his 6 month checkup who just happened to have knee pain after a skydiving landing (!!!!), poison ivy in a guy who went #2 in the woods and used leaves to wipe (you can imagine how bad that was), chronic sinusitis, a wart shave removal, and then some other health maintenance stuff. And I did my first pap in FOREVER today! I swear, it's like riding a bike. I feel pretty confident in my pelvic/pap skills thanks to having such a pap-errific ob/gyn rotation. I feel bad for those who have this rotation at the very end. It's really a skill you need to do at least 10 times in a row, bam bam bam, before you feel really comfortable doing & explaining your way through one to a woman. Penises on the other hand will be a challenge. Damn those penises and prostates. I've done probably 10 rectal exams on my rotations so far, but only about 7 or 8 male genital exams. I know this rotation is going to give me plenty of opportunity.

3. Career - okay, this is huge. So here's that back story - I did a rotation in Cardiology in Greensboro at a local hospital. I was with one cardiology group that has both an outpatient and inpatient population of patients. Another cardiology group within the hospital is apparently hiring, and my old cardiology preceptor dropped my name and recommended me! So this sort of fell in my lap. Today I had a pre-phone interview thing with the guy and got some information on the job and it sounds like a pretty good set-up, but only really if I lived in the Greensboro area. He asked about myself, what I'm looking for, what I'm planning to do after graduation, and told me more about the position. I expressed that I loved both hospital work and clinic work and am still keeping my options open, that my husband and I live in the Triangle area and aren't sure where we'll end up. THEN he asked what Ryan was interested in, because they are looking to hire 2 PA's, just as long as I was "okay" with working side by side with my husband. We wouldn't necessarily be working together, just in the same vicinity and occasionally in the office or hospital together. OMG. If Ryan and I both were able to secure a job prior to graduation, I would be in absolute heaven. This would make finishing up PA school so much less stressful! We could easily move to Greensboro if we both knew we'd be working there. I have my pros and cons in my head of the job, but I'm keeping this in the back of my mind. I plan to sleep on it and see how I feel in the morning. But that's exciting news! The office manager told me to provide him with feedback on my thoughts within a few days, and that they're looking to do in-person interviews perhaps next week or the week after. !!!!! Can you believe it? I may be interviewing for the first job of my CAREER?!?!??! Career. Not job. WOW. Holy cow. I swear I won't sleep tonight.

4. Home - I GET TO GO HOME TOMORROW!!!!!! Hooray. Home as in Durham, not Detroit... I am so fortunate to have two places I consider home sweet home. I love it. Can't wait to see my kitty and Ryan. (Sam is still at his parents' house, barking up a storm probably - we plan on getting her back graduation weekend.) HOORAY :)
