Martha Stewart kind of annoys me. I just happened to have the TV on that channel and her & some guy were making french-pressed coffee. Meanwhile, they were TOTALLY dissing any form of coffee that is not french pressed. I am no coffee connoiseur, but I am definitely no coffee snob either. All I can say is this: my morning brewed cup of coffee is the reason I wake up about 30 minutes well before the time it takes me to get ready in the morning. It's certainly not the "insipid washwork that people drink" that she called it. I am a huge fan of trying locally brewed coffee, Folgers, Maxwellhouse, Dunkin Donuts, Starbucks...you name it, I love to try it. I drink coffee more for the experience of it than the caffeine. After I eat my breakfast in the morning, I switch over to sipping my coffee over facebook updates and CNN world news. Sometimes after a good meal in the evening I'll have another cup. Coffee got me through some rough lectures last year, just to be able to indulge while learning about pulmonary function tests or GI diseases. So for Martha Stewart to diss one of my simple pleasures in life... she's got another thing coming. Oh, and for the record, french pressed coffee has been linked to higher cholesterol levels because you aren't separating the oils from the brew. Take that, Martha.
(If you're wondering why I'm blogging a rant about coffee, I have an eye appointment at 12:30 which is not enough time to really start doing anything productive besides this.)
Just a few more random thoughts:
1. There is yellow pollen EVERYWHERE here. When Ryan and I go to sit out on the balcony, we literally have to take a rag to the chairs to get the pollen off. I do not recall this phenomenon occurring in Michigan. It's all over the cars. Our once-white doormat is yellow. The animals come in with yellow paws and fur after relaxing outside on the balcony. Ew. The good thing, however, is that last year I was sensitized to it, so if I was going to be allergic, it would've appeared this year -- so far, so good. I have not fallen victim to sneezing and itchy eyes. So many people are miserable this time of year. Ryan has a little bit of a hard time with it in the evenings, but only mildly.
2. I'm nervous about my eye appointment because I hate that stupid glaucoma test.
3. I'm worried because Tony has been chilling and sleeping all morning, which means he is going to be wide awake and tearing into everything this evening. I have NOT been able to work on my paper with him in the same room because he's so crazy. I wonder if he'll ever lose his kittenness. For now, he is just the most curious cat and casually destructive in the process. We walk away for one second and come back into the kitchen, only to find Tony emerging from INSIDE the tortilla chip bag with a chip in his mouth. He scampers away with his prize which is just about the size of his head. You can't help but laugh. He's brought so much family-ness into this apartment. Sam just adores him, and they banter back and forth all the time. The second one of us takes Sam out to pee, Tony is right at the front door meow/howling in two syllables: "WOW-WOWWWW!!!" until she comes back. And the times I've had to lock Tony out of the guest room to work on my paper, Sam sits at the door whimpering at the paws emerging from underneath the door.
Well, I'm off to have that stupid puff of air blasted in my eyes. Joy.
