go duke!

As I write this, I am sure my serum cholesterol level is surely rising.

Tonight is the Duke/UNC game, which is a huge, HUGE, HUGE deal around these parts -- even bigger than the Super Bowl. This afternoon, Ryan and I took Sam for a walk around Duke Campus and then by Cameron Indoor to see the spectacle of Duke students. Anyone that had basketball tickets for tonight's 9 p.m. game had to be there by 6 a.m. this morning. It was insane. It was fun to be amongst all the campus activity this afternoon without having to have gotten up so early :)

When we came home, we dropped Sam back off at the apartment and headed back out to Harris Teeter (your local grocery store, I'd say a step above Kroger). Ryan was craving an old southern favorite, shrimp & grits, and apparently at the deli there you can buy fresh shrimp and tell them to steam it with seasoning. So we bought a pound seasoned with Old Bay. Holy cow, it smelled SO good. SO GOOD! It was hard to drive home without opening the bag.

While we were in line, some crazy 65-year-old lady started hootin' and hollerin' about us being Blue Devils in our Duke t-shirts, and proclaimed her undying love for UNC. She went on and on making a scene - lol - and invited us over her house (?!!?!) to watch the game, but to "bring your own food, cuz I don't feed no Devils." That's North Carolina for you. Friendly folks, but serious rivalries :)

They also had crab legs ridiculously on sale and Ryan looooves them so of course we had to buy them. I'm a huge seafood fan, so no rejection from me! We ended up making this super delicious dinner of shrimp and grits and garlic-butter crab legs along with some shots while cooking to make it all interesting. Did I mention those grits were cheesy grits? Holy hell. You might as well throw some atorvastatin at the two of us. I really need to stop eating like a Southerner, especially now that I'm on my cardiology rotation and seeing the real effects of it. Please stay patent, coronaries!

I feel bad that Ryan has long call tomorrow (working 7 a.m. - ~10 p.m.) but I'm glad he's home to watch the Duke game. I'm not a huge sports fan, but it is impossible to live down here and not be into basketball.

It's also way cool to watch ESPN and see Cameron and occasionally they also show Duke Chapel, where Ryan proposed to me. No matter how you spin it, Duke is pretty awesome. Go to hell, Carolina, go to hell!
