With all the chaos breaking out in the Harry Potter fandom these days, I thought I'd brag about some happy fandom news.
Author/scholar Henry Jenkins has just published
Convergence Culture: Where Old and New Media Collide (yes, that link will also give a cut of the sale to the SQ, just so you know...). In Chapter Five, "Why Heather Can Write: Media Literacy and the Harry Potter Wars," there is a section called "Rewriting School" which talks very favorably about Harry Potter fan fiction in general and the Sugar Quill specifically. It's a fascinating chapter and talks about how the Harry Potter fandom has an educational component and how it crosses generations.
This makes me happy and it will hopefully remind people that the draaaammmaaa really focuses on a very small group of people. There's a lot of good in this fandom.
