The Wire
I don't suppose there's anyone in this LJ world who watches The Wire? Y'all are into Veronica Mars and Serenity and all that stuff. I don't watch a lot of TV, mainly because I have a really short attention span, so when I am able to commit to something for 26 episodes, and counting, it's pretty exciting.
If you like police dramas, I highly recommend it. I don't have HBO, so I've watched the first two seasons on DVD. I'm waiting for the third.... The writing is wonderful. Throughout each season, I really find myself caring about the characters. And the story of the slowly-dying shipping industry and the union workers in the second season was fascinating.
Of course, I wouldn't recommend watching it if you're planning a fun vacation to Baltimore, but as a resident of the city, the Wire doesn't seem entirely exaggerated, although I can't claim any expert knowledge of the West Baltimore drug street scene.
