have been busy and offline thanks to Verizon DSL and an intermittent connection, but which is now finally resolved. Thank God. Even though I'm not online every day, it's still nice knowing that I *could* be if I wanted to. Kind of like the anxiety when my car is in the shop. Even if I'm doing nothing but staying home, I like knowing I;ve got a car in the driveway.
Since the weather's been so nice, I've been taking the kids outside more. Not being an outdoors type at all, this is a stretch for me, especially when I'd rather be inside curled up with a book or watching a movie. But, kids need the great outdoors, so I do it. A few days ago, I noticed something about Baby J, which reminded me of B when she was around his age. Weird food choices. If it can be called "food." It seems that Baby J gets bizarre cravings for sticks and rocks. Every time I look at him, he's jamming a stick in there or already munching on a rock or pebble. When B was little, I could always count on her to find a way to jam ladybugs into her mouth. I have no idea why my children flock to these strange things, but they do. Well, at least J doesn't have that many teeth to break yet.
A couple of days ago we went to the Carnegie Science Center with B's little friend and her nanny. We'd been there on several occasions before, but this time it was absolutely amazing. I can't remember ever being there when they had employees walking around, answerting questions, pointing out different areas and upcoming events. It was quite wonderful. They also have this huge room filled with toy trains and a village of old Pittsburgh and it's so intricate and a feast for the eyes. But the coolest part was the traveling exhibit. It was about movie magic. They had props and costumes from movies like Indiana Jones, Gladiator, Moulin Rouge, ET, and many more. I asked if they were replicas or the real deals, and they were the authentic items.
My favorite bit was when I saw the script Gregory Peck used for his role as Atticus in "To Kill a Mockingbird." I actually got chills looking at it, with his extensive amount of notes. They'd had it laminated, so I could actually flip through the pages. It was quite a moment, and N's nanny, who's only 20 and not a fan of old movies or classic literature, just looked at me kind of weird and moved on :) I'm still getting smiley thinking about it, and think I might go back just to look around that exhibit some more. Maybe when D gets back we can head over.
Oh joy. While typing this, Baby J somehow managed to knock down my DVD stand which has probably over 100 alphabetized DVDs on it. Somehow he managed to accomplish this feat while he was standing on the opposite side of his fenced in area, so he was not harmed at all, which is the important thing, but now I've got to reshelve them all and get them in order. Yuck.
sweetie,
baby j
