Shige  stared  non-plussed at the miniscule print at the bottom of his contract. He had a vague feeling that he might come to regret his actions later.

He signed it with a flourish. What did it matter? He was a Junior now.

She closed the door behind her and shut her eyes. How could they fire her just like that? Microsoft had been her life, her second home, ever since she'd graduated from college, slowly making her way up the corporate ladder from the lowest rung, the copy girl, until she'd become the Marketing Director for Asia. Now after 3 years of loyalty and hard work, she was getting fired like some inexperienced, untested intern because of the "unstable economic situation". All she wanted right now was the bar down the block and the biggest bottle of beer they could find. Or vodka, she wasn't too picky.

"If you're listening to this, I'm obviously not here," the sound of her own voice from the answering machine startled her a little. "Sing your sad song after the beep and i'll try to make it better,"

A deep male voice followed after the beep.

"You, call me."

Judy rolled her eyes. Trust the family grapevine to be faster than regular communication. She picked up her phone and dialled her uncle's cell phone number. With him, it was always wiser to get it over with straight away. She already knew what it was about anyway.

It rang once, twice, then -

"You got fired."

"Yes," Judy rolled her eyes again. She didn't even bother to ask how he knew. Her uncle had his ways.

"So, did Bill Gates fire you or did some young lackey take you down?"

"Overseas calls are expensive, you know."

"Oh, so it was a -"

"Point, please?"

"I'm reshuffling my management and I need just one more person to fill in the gaps..."

"This is the fifth time you've asked me to work for you."

"This is the first time I'm expecting a yes." Her uncle's voice grew serious. "Come work with me."

Judy sighed. What did she have to lose? It's not as if she had another Microsoft waiting for her anyway. "Alright, you've got six months to convince me."

"Good." She could hear his smile over the phone. "Your plane leaves on 6.00 p.m. this Friday."

Judy laughed for the first time that week.

"You had it all planned?" She chuckled.

"Of course I did. You have a passport right? I've already got the visa started and-"

"You know, if I didn't know better, I'd think that  you played a part in getting me fired."

"So would you like your own apartment or do you want to stay with me?" Judy raised an eyebrow. He'd completely ignored her question.

"My own apartment."

"So it's settled, i'll see you on Friday then."

"Friday it is."

"See you, Judy-chan."

Judy shook her head. It was hard to believe that he was older than her father. "See you. Oh, and Uncle?"

"Yes?"

"Thanks." she smiled as she hung up.
