The Aftermath
First day substituting went okay. I'm still not terribly comfortable teaching 11- and 12-year-olds (I had a sixth grade reading class), but that's more due to issues of pedagogy and lesson structure. The kids were INCREDIBLY well-behaved, and the lesson was pretty easy (we went through the first two chapters of Hatchet, reading round-robin). By seventh period, I was having to walk around while reading aloud because otherwise I would fall over the podium and sleep on the floor. Unfortunately, the instructor is still sick, so I'll be back in tomorrow--let's just hope it goes as well as today did.
