turning 23, Omar, and other assorted fun

Alright, I haven't done a real update in a while, so here goes.

Last Sunday I turned 23, which is scary. This aging thing has got to stop before someone gets hurt. I had a pretty good day, although much of it was spent studying for the HUGE anatomy test that we had on Tuesday. I definitely thought everyone had forgotten about my birthday until all of my Ross friends showed up at my door with a red velvet cake and other assorted goodies. Yay!

So then we had the anatomy exam, which SUCKED. Seriously. Then we got two days off of classes for Hurricane Omar!

The hurricane was AWESOME. Gary and Alexa came over and we had a hurricane party. Normally, a "hurricane party" involves copious amounts of alcohol, but alas, we didn't have much time to get to the store, so there were limited amounts and, let's face it, someone needs to stay sober during a natural disaster. So Alexa stayed sober and Gary and I drank a little. ;) We watched Amelie because Alexa and I adore French, and then we watched the storm and talked. We were up until about 4 or 5 am before we passed out. It was SO much fun, and now I want another hurricane so we can have another hurricane party. :) There was minimal damage to the campus- just some broken and fallen trees.

Because of Omar, we had a very shortened school week, and we have a long weekend because mid-semester break happens to be this week. So we don't have school on Monday, and we were talking about going to the new movie theater, which just opened a few weeks ago. It's pretty amazing because it's fancy with stadium seating and 7 screens, as opposed to the old 1-screen wonder they have downtown, which still shows intermissions in the middle of the movie. And the new one is not downtown and closer to the school, so infinitely less sketchy.

In other news, I tried sugar cane today for the first time. It was interesting, because you're not supposed to eat it all- just chew it and suck out the juice. The texture was weird, but it was good.

I'm also getting a lot more used to living here. It's not home, but it's interesting and beautiful, if nothing else. I've had some moments when I've been really lonely and thought coming here was a mistake, but I feel a lot better about it now.

Anyway, I can't think of anything else to say at the moment. Hope you're all doing well. Goodnight! <3
