cynicism comes with age. Why? Because age comes with the awareness that all of those sparklers you lit as a kid were in celebration of a country that lost track of its humility.

I hate that I must feel guilty being an American.

tell me about it. everyone i've talked to here (in London) keeps telling me that "it was forgivable the first time, but after the US elected Bush TWICE..." i keep saying, "I didn't vote for him!"

but it sort of makes me miserable. and guilty, yes.
