February 5th
Today I wore my hair in a twist after just about having it with my bangs. Right now they look a little wispy and out of style so all I can think to do is to twist them down the sides of my head into oblivion so that no one knows I have them! I’d consider getting my hair done here but I don’t even want to think about how much (lack) of money I have right now. And also, I mentioned the whole mullet problem they have here…so the whole haircut thing might as well be axed right there.
I don’t know how I’m going to afford anything this semester or ever. *sigh* But in the meantime I’ll pretend I have money and I’ll try and visit as many places as possible!
Oye, as predicted, I got owned on my test today and I see that the next one is going to be even worse. I got a 6.5 out of 10…aka a 65%. Now, in the real world (Albion Style) that would be FAILING but in this happy world it’s a C-. Taking spanish grammar tests is a little bit like taking math. You make one tiny mistake it adds up to mind-blowing proportions except at least in math you get points for showing your work. In spanish you get points taken off for showing your work so you might as well just not write. Anything. Ever. *sigh*
Paco made a shockingly good meal today. I think he has been under the weather which would explain all of the sleeping. His girlfriend came over today. Talk about awkward. I think she thought I was deaf/mute and therefore wouldn’t speak to me. Paco was so excited about me being from the same state as the Detroit Pistons that he completely forgot my lack of linguistic ability and just about dropped to his knees in praise. ‘Cause you know me and Rasheed Wallace are tight (PS- is he even PLAYING for the Pistons anymore…he’s the only one I can name).
My legs are a new kind of hairy I don’t think I’ve ever experienced before. It’s getting to the point where I might consider them a kind of tourist attraction. My friends keep trying to catch a glimpse but I’ve taken to wearing high socks. One of these days….
I FINALLY bought stamps today from the nice stamp man that Emily recommended at the school (thanks, mLe! He was great!). I bought five for USA, 2 for Spain (aka for mLe), and 2 for Europe (aka for Claire). Therefore I have quite an accumulation of stamps!
I’m either allergic to Luna or getting a cold and since I’ve been here for 2 weeks without a problem I’m gonna say it’s not Luna. I just want someone to take a hammer to my sinuses. Perhaps I’ll wander to the Farmacía. I hear that the pharmacists are practically drs here.
I’ve been getting so many compliments on my facebook photos! Thanks for the compliments! They are much appreciated. What I’ve noticed about taking good photos is that you mostly need luck, patience, and a camera you’re willing to fiddle with and carry around. You never know when you’re going to walk into the most incredible photo moment. Vanessa and I were walking out of a bar last week and two men sat on a bench in the warmly lit street playing a harp/guitar duet. It was just so beautiful and they played so well. But neither of us had our cameras which was a huge bummer. Mostly taking good pictures is about appreciating little things. Details. Good pictures are usually not the products of extraordinary things because those can speak for themselves. Good pictures are those which catch the ordinary things in extraordinary circumstances.
Cristina and I had fun together tonight singing like always. She AND her dad have some kind of gastrointestinal problem that I think involves numero dos, if you know what I mean, and I am really dreading the day I contract it. But for now I’ll just keep my fingers crossed that I don’t.
Anyway, that’s all from this end. Please email or facebook. I love you! Hope you’re all keeping cozy!

Love,
Zoe
