Thursday's Class

I was so proud of myself for actually finding the assigned readings online.  Usually I'm terrible about keeping up with stuff online, but I actually looked it up on black board and found exactly what was due for Thursday's class.  The only even somewhat interesting thing we have done all semester, in terms of reading, was reading The Curious Case of Benjamin Button.  I mean, the whole articule about the ambulance drivers being authors left me with the feeling of "Who Cares?"  Let's talk about all the poets who were drug addicts and alcoholics, that would be more interesting.  Speaking of which, that 300 something line poem we read was clearly written by someone who had taken far too many drugs before writing it.  Yes, there were plenty of allusions to meaningful things, but just because important events were listed doesn't make it a great work.  The encylopedia has lots of interesing stories and accounts but we don't credit the authors as being writers with great ideas and visions and being able to put ideas on paper.  The poem made no sense, he jumped back and forth between ideas, and just randomly threw in all the crap he knew about history and what not.  Totally unreadable, and 100% a waste of time.  If i wrote a poem in which I wrote down all the random facts about history and anything else I knew, I feel as if somehow I would not get famous.  It was only because this guy had written other famous works that people decided to view this as a masterpiece.  Anyway, I didn't like it.
