Way cool!
Two weeks ago there was a day here in Sheboygan where temperatures climbed to a record high of 93 degrees, which is pretty amazing for early May. After work that day, Aidan and I decided we'd head down to the beach and fly a kite. Shortly after we got there, a photographer for the Sheboygan press showed up and took a few pictures of us. The next day there was a nice color photo of the two of us in the paper.
That was cool, but today it got way cooler. My dad called me to let me know that there was a letter at their house addressed to Aidan and I. It was from a U.S. Marine stationed in Afghanistan. It turns out our picture was re-printed in The Stars and Stripes, a daily newspaper that gets distributed to military families. He sent us a copy of the Middle East edition with our photo in it. There is also a European edition, but I don't know if we made it into that one. Definite scrap book material if you ask me.
Aside from that, I realize I've been a stranger once again. I'm about a month into the new job, and it's going very well. I'm loving pretty much everything about it. Our company picnic is coming up next weekend, which is going to be amazing. Brats, burgers, steaks, cotton candy, funnel cakes, Dippin' Dots, micro brews, frozen mixed drinks, a disc golf course for prizes, a ton of games for the kids, a casino for big cash prizes, a petting zoo, pony rides, door prize drawings every hour for $500, and a grand prize drawing for $3,000 cash. I'm bailing out on half of an out-of-town bacehlor party so as not to miss this.
This coming weekend we're going to a Pirate Festival that just sounds awesome. Kind of like a Rennaisance Fair, but Pirate themed. There's a costume contest, so we'll be vamping up Aidan's Halloween costume from last year and donning it once again. They do a re-enactment of a naval battle on Lake Michigan and a pirate invasion of the port. There's a parade, fireworks, entertainment from pirate performers, a marketplace, and pirate food. Yo ho!
This past weekend we went to the Milwaukee Public Museaum. Easily the highlight was when Aidan walked into the dinosaur exhibit, looked at the skeleton of a Triceratops, and said "Whoa! Get a load of that Bonehead!"
