The Dresden Files by Jim Butcher for the following reasons
1. I picked the most recent book up and starting reading late this evening. I just finished it as I type this.
2. In of a 400+ page book Jim Butcher somehow managed to avoid a single multipage pointlessly explicit sex scene, which if Hamilton and other authors in the field are to be taken at face value seems nearly impossible.
3. Real wizards carry Crown Royal bags for their D&D dice.
4. Downright nifty plot, where the baddies actually get a decent plan
5. One of the books, not this one, has the following conversation:
"Listen to me. We are not going to die!"
"We're not?"
"No. And do you know why?"
"Because Thomas is too pretty to die. And because I'm too stubborn to die. And most of all because tomorrow is Oktoberfest, Butters, and Polka will never die."
"Polka will never die! Say it!"
Plus, those folks who made Fate, SoTC, and Don't Rest Your Head are making a game for the series. If their previous work is any indication, it should be a solid game.
Thank you Dresden Files for reminding me why I like urban fantasy.
