Gerard's POV
I didn't even have time to talk to Fun Ghoul the next morning because Kobra Kid came running down the hall, yelling loud enough that no one could be asleep.
"WE'VE GOT A TRANSMISSION FROM DR. D!" He yelled and i felt the small ball of sheets lying next to me start stirring.
"Come on Ghoul," I muttered, placing a chaste kiss to his forehead as I slid on my jeans and boots.
"Killjoys, raise some hell," came the end of the transmission as Ghoul and I walked into the heart of the diner. Jet handed me the paper with the message he'd written down.
Frank's POV
Party Poison hadn't said a single word about last night, and i was perfectly content with that. I still didn't know what was real, or what was a dream, but until I did, this was my reality and i had to live in it. I couldn't complain about anything at this point and as Party read over the paper, I found myself smiling. The sensation warmed my entire body as I waited beside Kobra to hear what Party would say.
It was as if I could see his entire body react to the message. His eyes flashed in determination, his emotion flowing like a river through his body. His jaw stiffened, a slow mischievous smile forming on this thin pressed lips. I could see his muscles flex reflexively as he turned to look at Jet first, then Kobra. When his eyes settled with mine, I could see conflict break through. After a second, he nodded towards me as if to get rid of the conflict.
"I think we can all handle this one," He smirked as he addressed all of us. "It seems we have a mole in BL/ind's business. They want to meet us because they have some sort of technology to share." Party Poison sounded skeptical but interested. "We just have to go meet them."
"And where would we meet them?" Kobra accused, his arms crossing as he rested his hip against the counter. "It sounds like a set up."
Party threw the paper down onto the countertop. How he got all of that from a jumbled message was beyond me. "On the other side of Battery City. We'll have to leave soon. And," he added, turning towards Kobra, narrowing his eyes, "I always have a plan."
****************
The car ride was painstakingly slow. By the time Party had stopped the car, all of the butterflies in my stomach had lodged themselves so far into my trachea that it was a miracle I was able to breathe.
"We'll have to go on foot from here," he replied, pulling out the map labeled Battery City. "This is where we're meeting them. I want Ghoul across the street to be a lookout. Jet, you're going to be in the building next door. Kobra and I will go in to meet him." He pointed each and every spot out in turn, including where we would meet when everything was done.
I grabbed the walkie-talkie Jet handed me and slid out of the car. The gun around my waist felt heavy and unusual. I watched as Kobra and Jet took off, leaving Party and I alone.
"You do know what you're doing right? I need you to be focused. If you can't do it, then you need to stay in the car." His eyes were serious and unwavering as his words stabbed through my heart.
Of course I don't, I thought bitterly as i stuck my chin in the air and glared back at him. “Don't worry, I won't leave you behind,” I half snarled before turning on my heels and walking off. I had no idea where that came from and I could feel his eyes watching me as I continued to walk.
Gerard's POV
I stared after him, my eyes wide in shock at his words. Inside my chest, my heart was threatening to break through. He was remembering. I knew he would be able to. I bounced on the balls of my feet as I ran after Kobra. I could talk to Ghoul afterwards.
“What are you so happy about?” Kobra asked as I caught up to him and calmed myself down, focusing once again on the task at hand.
“I think Ghoul will be back with us again soon,” I smirked slightly as we stopped outside of the building. Instead of answering his inquisitive glance, I nodded towards the fire escape.
“I'll see you inside.”
**********************
It didn't take long for the informant to make itself known to Kobra and me. She wasn't quite what I was expecting to be a BL/ind employee. Her dark hair hung straight to her shoulders, flat against her head. Her eyes were wide, filled with the knowledge of many pass her age.
“You're Party?” She asked softly, glancing towards my red hair, then my eyes. Of course, she didn't really have to ask, my wanted posters were everywhere, but I still gave her a nod. I glanced around to make sure we didn't have any eavesdroppers, or worse, Dracs in hiding as she spoke.
“BL/ind has developed a new system for brainwashing,” she whispered hurriedly. “It's kind of like a drug they inject into the person, only it's not. They inject small computer chips called Nanites into a person's blood stream. The Nanites then attach themselves to the nervous system and the brain, erasing any memories that BL/ind wants to.”
Kobra and I shot each other glances and I knew we were both wondering about Ghoul. Had that been what these monsters done to him? They erased everything? I gritted my teeth as i turned back to her.
“Is there any chance for them to recover their memory?” I asked, unable to stop the hope that escaped in my words.
“No, I'm afraid not,” she whispered, her voice taking on a sad tone. “Every test has been successful.” My face fell, Kobra placing a hand on my shoulder as I swallowed the thick lump in my throat.
“So there's not any chance?” Kobra asked while my eyes drifted to the floor.
“No, but you don't really want them too. It's a fail-safe. If they start remembering the nanites will-” she started, only to be interrupted by Ghoul's voice on my walkie-talkie.
“You guys get out of there. We have Dracs everywhere.....”
