For those who haven't already heard this rant, I hate IJ because I don't like the whole "insane" journal, "patients" , "asylums", etc. concept. I know it's supposed to be funny, but to me it isn't. And it probably won't ever be funny to me. It's disrespectful to the mentally ill, in my opinion.
I also hate IJ for the ads, because you can't seem to make them go away unless you pay for a journal. I'm intense; I admit it. I do my best to avoid purchasing products from environmentally unfriendly corporations, I try really hard to avoid buying products from companies that exploit child laborers. You have read my attempts to Christmas shop without buying anything from China because China poisoned our pets and our kids. I actually try to not buy anything from China, but I have cold feet and I really, really, needed some socks. The bottom line is that I don't want to help advertise a company whose policies I disagree with! (Okay, maybe I'm not just intense, I might even be actively annoying.)
But anyway, LJ had some claim to superiority because they didn't force you to accept advertising to have a free journal. Only now that the 100 Days of Happiness with the new Russian owners is up, you have to accept ads; unless you pay to get rid of them. And LJ didn't even announce that; instead it just sorta slid it in. Earlier this month, LJ DID announce its new policies and guidelines and ask for comments.
OH, I have been commenting, all right! My last one said that companies that exploit child laborers were of more concern to me and more offensive to me than any drawing of Romeo and Juliet making love could ever be and what was LJ going to do to make sure none of their advertisers exploited real children?
So feel free to comment on LJ's latest nonsense, or at least post a sketch of Romeo and Juliet doing the nasty.
