I started - but this is a first and more of a stream of conciousness.
I'll no doubt get the hang of finding people, shared interests, etc., and build links - but I'm not clear quite on adding a 'friend' who you don't know based on their profile and/or own journal.
I think I did add one

I haven't been climbing a tree for a long time .... gosh maybe in the early '80s.
Walking - all are welcome and yes, I keep the walks up one way or another thruout the year (and almost in any weather). Although they may become a bit more short notice / impromptu as the year wears on. And of course the days get a lot shorter, so some walks are not really practical, further out from London.
The main group I do this with - I'll post some archive reports at some point, which will give you a flavor - is the Wednesday Club, but it all started in the SE at least with a friend (former colleague) way back in the early '90s.
I mail to a mixed wider group, and sometimes a Dutch friend comes along, as well as others who were also working at and/or working for the Fairtrade Foundation.
Philosophy and walking - come together also with Philosophy for All and Kant's Cave http://www.pfalondon.org/ and see also PFA Movies .... quite an eclectic bunch.
I think that walks and movies provoke more interesting debate and discussion.
The Wednesday Club is much more relaxed and discussive than Kant's Cave - but then it is a lot smaller group .... the old site is very very out of date: http://www.wednesday-club.org.uk/
Keith Gibson http://www.dcs.bbk.ac.uk/~jkg/, someone I knew back in the '70s when I was a teen and out and about in London including people connected with the Quakers and who led walks then, still leads a monthly walk - first Saturday of the month I think. Details are usually posted to http://lists.quaker.eu.org/mailman/listinfo/london-young-friends
Now where was I - oh yes, with short days as the fall develops, judging distance and time is a bit trickier .... hence finishing in the dark on the canal last October/November.
It makes for short strolls, almost pub crawls, in the winter months. I aim for a full day out at least once a month, sometimes more often, and occasional evenings every fortnight or so, on the canals, rivers, navigations, reasonably close to the centre of London.
I know Washington a tiny bit, mainly for passing thru on the way north to visit friends in BC. I've stayed at a motel just off the interstate - was that near Bellingham? - and dined at a German restaurant just across the road. Snohomish I remember .... and dinner once somewhere looking out on the water in Seattle. It's been a few years ..
I hope that interests ...
Dominic
