more cooking adventures!

...ok, so red wine does taste way better if you let it breathe for a while. The taste difference between 'just out of the bottle' and '25 minutes in the glass' is really significant.

I made a recipe my dad found in a 1970s Naval Academy cookbook! It's for pork chops- I can actually just paste the whole recipe here, as he sent it via e-mail.

Needed:

skillet
2 Qt casserole w/ lid

2-4 pork loin chops
1 yellow onion
1/2 cup barbeque sauce
1/2 cup red wine or water
oil

Pre-heat oven to 350F

Chop onion into 1/4 - 1.2 inch pieces. Layer half of the onion into the casserole dish.

Heat oil in skillet medium to high heat and then quickly sear the pork chops (brown on both sides about 1-2 minutes per side).

Place the pork chops on top of the onion and then pour the rest of the onions on top of the pork.

Mix the barbecue sauce and liquid together and pour over the pork and onions.

Cover with lid and bake for ~ 50 minutes.

Serve with cooked rice.

It is tasty!

I also baked cookies, but when I was baking them the air in the kitchen smelled like cilantro instead of chocolate chip cookies. It was disturbing, especially because as far as I know, no one was keeping any cilantro in the kitchen.

I worked 17 hours last weekend (2 full days at Tara's: Saturday is 10-8, Sunday is 6-11) and I'm not working this week until Wednesday, so I had today to go grocery shopping, do the dishes, cook, go to the bank, and shop at the Lutheran Mission Center, which had their half-off sale today! I got a new hardback copy of Quicksilver for 50 cents, which is COMPLETELY FRIGGIN RIDICULOUS and made my day, since that thing is like $30 normally. I also got some decent, new-looking pleather boots for $4. I also donated some more money to them because I was so thrilled with my finds. :)
