Yesterday we got up super-early and flew out of Mexico, and spent the night at my grandpa's house. The last day of climbing was a much-needed cooldown from the previous day's climbing, which was long, hard routes (I did a 5.10- and by did, I mean "spent an hour at the end of the day forcing myself to cling to the side of a rock and stretch my arms farther than they were ever meant to go, and giving up 10 feet from the top because it was too damn hard", but the last day was so nice because we did 5.7s and easy 5.8s and 5.9s. I'm pretty sure that 5.10s are still out of my league, even if I did them early in the day and in perfect health. But whatever, at least I tried it.

The climbs in Potrero Chico were way longer than I expected, which was sort of nice but also tiring near the end of the week. It was neat hearing different languages (Spanish, English, French, German) spoken at the same wall, though.

So today we drove back to Dad's, and Dad and I went shopping. We went to Borders to spend my giftcard from Aunt Nancy, where I was disappointed to find that the 5th Temeraire book was not yet out in paperback and neither was 2009's Year's Best Science Fiction (ed. Gardner Dozois), so I bought cds instead. I blame Liam and his shared iTunes playlist for getting me hooked on certain Belle and Sebastian songs.

And then we went to Costco and Lucky and I got lots (and by lots I mean HUGE GIANT BAGS) of snacks for dorm livin'. Anytime Johnnies want rice cracker party mix, dried mango, or dried cherries, they can come find me (although the dried cherries are going to go fast- they are so good it is ridiculous).

Buuuuuut the best part of my day was finding Ethelflaed's present for me on the back doorstep! I'm looking forward to watching "They Might Be Giants" (it is a movie and does not, as far as I can tell, directly involve the band of the same name, but it is apparently about someone who thinks he is Sherlock Holmes, and my dad has seen it and says it's good) but honestly my favorite part was that on the back of the present, the wrapping paper had a handwritten note chastising me for looking at the back and asking if I "thought I was you or something?" Forget my day, that made my year.
