I was watching Apocalypto the other day (awesome movie, go see it) in which the titular character is called Jaguar Paw, or Jaguar for short, who is seven types of awesome and sneaky and really fucking bad-ass. But Emocezi has talked me into writing yours as well. No idea when It will be done as I have 44 WIPs on my plate right now. (I have a plot bunny problem) But I'm currently picking out names for Cougar's parents and plotting your idea out. I've never seen El Dorado, and I have an idea about how Cougar becomes Cougar, but other than that I'm following your prompt to the letter. \o/

My research into Mayan culture is giving me a headache and wondering why I didn't learn this in school, so this might not be 100% accurate, but I'll do my best! <3

I remember doing the Inca, Aztec and Mayan THINGIE at school, and while it was interesting, it went under the file 'delete upon graduation' in my brain, so *shrugs* I highly doubt someone will go holy shit bro you misplaced a P in that name and, THAT event happened in 1355 not 1365... because why? And I'd probably punch them.

Well, I'm setting it in the late 1520's, because that's about the time the Spanish started showing up. (This means the Mayan civilization is almost gone - mostly scattered into tribes.) I'm placing the story in Palenque (It's near-ish to modern day Chiapas, a place I've spent some time in so I'll feel comfortable describing it ) and this way Cougar's mom can get pelvicy with his dad and also raise Cougar on her own in the city with out having them both killed or sacrificed. Palenque is basically becoming a ghost town about then. Out side of that, history is going to do what I want when I want it. >:D

As far as I know, the Mayan fic Pistol has been writing is with the Beta now, though it might still take some time as the Beta has other fics/obligations to see to. I'd say stay tuned to AO3 and Pistol's journal and you won't miss it :D
