Day 2
In your own space, post a rec for at least three fanworks that you did not create. Drop a link to your post in the comments. See if you can rec fanworks that are less likely to be praised: tiny fandoms, rare pairings, fanworks other than stories, lesser known kinks or tropes. Find fanworks that have few to no comments, or creators new to a particular fandom and maybe aren't well known or appreciated. Appreciate them.
I have so many recs in so many fandoms that I probably wouldn't be able to fit them all in this post alone, but I'm going to go with under-appreciated fics in an under-appreciated fandom, The Losers. One that I got into too late, when the fics stopped coming and the fandom slowly came to a halt, I really regret not getting to participate while people were still interested, but they certainly left some good stuff for me to enjoy.
Walk With Me by
JoeLawson - 8,107, Pg-13, Survival:
I can't even begin to say nice things about this, because I'll never shut up! Just go read it, because of JENSEN with his stupid logic and Cougar not knowing how to help and all the feelings! Such a lovely read, one of my favourite fics, ever! (Cougar/Jensen, Pre-Movieverse) JoeLawson has written a few fics in The Losers fandom,
go read.
Bring It On, Losers by
Lex_Munro - 19,383 (in total), Pg-15 for language, WIP, Humour:
Oh my god, TEAM! This just makes my heart do cartwheels. It goes that step beyond good fic, with good research and correct use of military slang (there is a definitions list) and phrases, it just does it for me so much. This series (consisting of two parts
One, Two, Three, Four and
Nobody Told Me He Could Fly, 4 and 13 chapters respectively) is genuinely funny and boys being stupid and did I say TEAM? (Starts out gen then slowly builds it's way up to Cougar/Jensen, Pre-Comicverse)
Ghosts In A Machine by
Marvinetta - 9,824, R, Horror:
This is so well written, the first time I read it I was actually creeped out. Like a horror movie, but so much better. This fic is one of my favourites, but anything Marvinetta has written for The Losers (
here) is brilliant! (Kind of gen, implied Cougar/Jensen, Post-Movieverse)
Watch by
katemonkey - 1,342, Nc-17, PWP:
Short and sweet and so very hot. It's the fic I keep coming back to when I need to get that muse on when I'm drawing. (Cougar/Jensen, Post-Movieverse)
Famous Last Words by
Jendavis - 40,061, R, Fix-It Fic: *SPOILERS FOR COMIC IN DESCRIPTION!*
This was exactly what I needed after I finished the The Losers comic. Though I respect Andy Diggle's choice on how to end the series, I hate that Cougar stayed behind, I hate that Jensen left even though Cougar told him to (but so glad that he survived). So this pick-me-up/fix-it story was exactly what I needed and is totally my head canon right now. A look into how Jensen copes with Cougar's death and how Cougar himself copes with what isn't hell or heaven and the possibility that he might not have died. (Cougar/Jensen, Post-Comicverse)
There are many fics I'd like to rec (all of them?), but I suggest that if you would like to read more to go to
AO3 or head over to
jensen_cougar or
losers_fic And just one last rec. I know it's not The Losers, but this fic is amazing and isn't receiving nearly as much attention as it should. Even if you've never seen the short-lived tv series Stargate: Universe, you should read this. Amazing build up, brilliant characterisations, so many feelings and hidden agendas and FEELINGS and you just want for the author to update faster, it's just so good.
Force Over Distance (and all the smaller fics that fit in between chapters) by
CleanWhiteRoom - something like 360,000 words (with all the smaller interlacing fics) and still going, R overall, Sci-fi/Angst:
Only thing I can say: read it (Remember to read the timeline in her profile so you don't read out of order).
