Signs

While most of the comments that Ginger has gotten have been positive some are very angry.  I know these are the fringe nutters but still, the venom and hostility that these people are showing is a bit troubling.  The last time I checked, over 160,000 people had viewed Ginger's flicker page and it only takes one.  One of them to try to up the ante.  I am not sure what to expect the next time I leave the house unattended for a few hours at night.  I should not have to worry about showing support to a candidate that is not popular in the area I live.  Yet, here I am worried that the same nut cases that bomb abortion clinics are going to see me as some sort of threat to them.

I have to tell you that I did not want to put up the sign for Ginger.   It was a combination of things.  I thought the sign was a bit of an eyesore.  I figured the yard signs were trashed and stolen by punk kids.  I figured that we were asking for more trouble in the future.  All of these things  played against me putting up the sign.

I could have not put the sign up and stifled Ginger's support and enthusiasm but this is as much her house as mine.  While she would have honored my request to not put it up, it would not have been right for me to ask.  I could take the sign down but that shows fear and defeat and I have never been one to back down from a fight.  So I will leave the sign up and attempt to safe-gaurd the house as much as possible.

With Halloween coming up I expect to have our house and yard trashed by the same people that did the vandalizing in the first place.  It will be interesting to see how many people avoid our house with trick-or-treaters.  At this point I think I am going to go get some motion sensor lights and cameras to put in our yard.  Hopefully if someone messes with my home I will have the evidence to have them arrested and/or pay for the damages.
