today is chinchilla day
Last night I put the cage together. I think she'll like it. It is pretty big. The bottom level is 29" x 29" and there are some perches and things (though there is room for more levels, which I will probably add as time goes on). I put tiles along the cage bottom, because I am weird and it seemed like a good idea at the time. Chinchillas tend to get their feet caught in wire grids, so I wanted something to cover the grid holes... and they are from the mountains, so I thought that having a hard ceramic surface available might be more comfortable for her than newspaper or canvas or something (which would get chewed up anyway. I also included some cement half-blocks that can serve as perches and hidey-holes (and which are too heavy for her to move around).
I'm still trying to think of names. I probably won't settle on one until I've gotten to spend some more time with her. Suggestions are still welcome.
