Last post, and most squeeful!
Stargate SG-1: The Ark of Truth, or, HOMGYAY ESSGEEWUN!!!1!
I don't know, what did you call it when it was in your hands at last?
Because of the way I watched, and since we're a few days removed, this won't be as complete a review as the film deserves. There was a lot to talk about, and overall, a whole lot to love.
Really, they would have had a harder time making me not love it. I've missed these characters immensely - you don't realize how much the SGA appearances don't make up for it until you see them all together again. We got a packed plot including omgwtfarchaeology, space battles, ubermythology, familiar guest stars, a whole lot of whumping, omgwtfreplicators (real ones, not weak imitation SGA variety), and above all, TEAM. I liked a lot of stuff in this movie, and I know I'd miss things if I tried to list them all. So I won't.
No, really.
*shifty eyes*
Okay, I do need to get to bed earlier tonight, so I really, really won't do it. It was just so cool how the mythology all came together, and how everyone was back in their element, from the leads to the tech sergeants. The actors did a phenomenal job, particularly Tomin. I was rooting for Teal'c to get in there and provide his unique form of counseling. They were determined to beat up our guys much more than is humanly possible, which um, okay, but even though it's handwavey, it makes us love them even more. Poor Cam (but omg, how CUTE was Sam with the cookies?)! Poor tortured and exhausted Daniel (understatement - MS was fantastic)! I've missed Vala so damn much.
Like Farscape's PK Wars, a lot of intended season-long plot had to be compressed into two hours, and in places, it strained against that necessity. Daniel's Merlin-vision is kind of a huge thing that had to be glossed over rather quickly, and there were some blatant time jumps and debatable leaps of logic, like Teal'c's LotR-inspired hike to exactly where he needed to be. (Did we wave our arms and sing "Climb Every Mountain"? Maybe.) The extras as much as admitted that the ark was a plot device created when the film became the solution to resolving the plot*, and I suspect the Replicators' return had similar inspiration, because we kind of finished that hay ride already. I fully expected Ba'al to show up somewhere after that. The most annoying thing, for me, was that the shutdown code for the Replicators was on the other fucking side of the crystal. Really? Really? That's your big goddamn reveal? FFS.
Even with all of the weirdness and compression, they moved along at a steady pace and kept up the trademark balance of action and humor. Wouldn't be Stargate without it, don'tcha know. They had some supercool effects, like flaming!Adria, souped-up flying people, and uber-Ancient battle of doom. And I totally expected Tomin to go out in a ball of noble sacrifice, and he didn't! Yay, Tomin! Yay, SG-1!

*It also made for a good running "DON'T LOOK AT THE ARK!" gag on our side. We've seriously got to organize a group watch for MST purposes, you guys. The possibilities go on and on.
