Math in Action

I have been in the many-tentacled entity that is Fandom for over ten years. Today, I finally uncovered a Universal Fandom Truth:

Any canon + Muppets = Greatness
Exhibit A: Take Atlantis.
Exhibit B: See icon.

For added bonus, this mind-blowing formula formula completely explains Farscape's enduring Awesome.

Tin Man

So! I do have a lot to say, but was too lazy/busy to do so during the run. In general, I enjoyed it lots! Yes, it was flawed in many places, but it was engaging and watchable, which you can't say for most of the Skiffy original miniseries...es.

- Let us not speak of the dialogue, unless we are speaking of "a little restraint" or "Good morning, sweetheart!" Dialogue isn't why we watch these movies, anyway.

- Acting was okay to abysmal (we're all looking at you, Az). The brightest spot was Alan Cumming. No shock there. I thought Zooey Deschanel was  uneven; in some places, I really loved her, in others, I raised questions. Again, not why we watch these.

- Hahahaha Rothman.

- I did not appreciate the elevation of Cain to the detriment of Glitch and Raw (who gets a point of his own, hold that thought). Granted, I've never had much time for the Tin Man's emo and always preferred Scarecrow's quest (mmm, brains), but my distaste was much more prominent in this version, as was his role.

- I may have yelled at the TV when they showed intented-or-otherwise hints of DG/Cain. Messing with my canon aside, he called her "kid" and variations thereof throughout it, and I'm sorry, but that's a squick for me. But, you know, have fun with the hints if it's your thing.

- Okay, so, Raw. Now, the Cowardly Lion gets pretty well shafted in the movie - his intro scene is abbreviated in comparison, and "If I Were King of the Forest" doesn't really make up for it with the corridor scene following - so in that way, Tin Man was actually quite faithful, to that version anyway. Again, though, they took it to an extreme, and one with strong shades of noble savage. Dialogue, intangible powers, "it's okay for him to kill in revenge even though the human just gave us a moral lesson about that"...yeah. Oh, Skiffy. Please change.

- Glitch/Ambrose. <3333 Sequel: How Glitch Got His Brain Back. Y?

- Zero's curly forelock will never not be best described as pretty. :-P

- I don't think I've ever typed the word forelock before.

- The reveal of the current O.Z. rulers being descended from Dorothy was cool, but I wish it had been built up more through the story. We knew "Gale" had to be a reference as soon as it was mentioned, and from there, it remained stagnant till the crypt scene. The middle of the story was all kinds of muddled and would have improved with that building mystery in the background. It would also have anchored all that direction-less plottish flailing. I'm not sure if it's good or bad that I don't remember the book version of the journey south very well.

- I got a huge kick out of all the references, blatant or subtle.

- Preeeeeeeeeeeetty scenery!

- Ages and relative appearances were so, so screwed up. Hahaha.

- I'm okay with the story ending where it did. Lack of denouement means we can imagine whatever we feel like. Yay!

- Except for one: we should all remember that these characters are now blind from eclipse. Oops!

Really, overall, I love me some Oz-verse, and I found it quite satisfying.

Fic I Haven't Read

Whatwhatwhat, teamficathon?! I haven't even finished reading the apocafics yet, much less rarepairings! And that's just one fandom.

Today, I'm grateful for fandom. The last two hours of my work day verged on manic, but after typing all this, I feel much better.

sga, sg1, tv, muppets
