NaYes, NaNo

Happy Birthday, psychobarfly!Okay, flist, I have a big decision to make. I've been telling myself for years that I would finally do NaNoWriMo when I was finished with school (where I was probably writing the equivalent, anyway, but in pieces). Of course, now that I'm in that situation, I completely forgot about it and have spent no time brainstorming anything ( Read more... )

I've never done Nano, but... I thought the whole point of it was that people always have excuses NOT to write (like, "I haven't brainstormed yet,"), and this is the, "We don't care. Don't worry about it. Just sit down and do it and forget about making it perfect," response.

I say, go for it. What's the worst that could happen? You get a week or two into it and decide that it's not all it was cracked up to be and quit? *horrors* ;-)

Alternatively, you could just write us lots of fic.

Well, you're supposed to do the plotting part in advance so that you have something to write on day one.

I thought about using it for fic, and that might still happen, but I'd prefer to do something more bloggable (outside of LJ).

We'll see!

FWIW, the motto of NaNoWriMo is "no plot? no problem." So, yeah, just write!

I'm doing nano this year. I've deliberately cleared my fic schedule ahead of time so all my Christmas stuff is done and I don't have it hanging over my head.

As for ideas, I've got three bouncing around. I figure that one of them will take a firmer grip over the next few weeks.

Do NaNo! It'll be fun. :D

Besides, baseball season will be over; what're you really gonna do otherwise anyway? ;D

I'm thinking about giving it a shot, since this is my first year ever where I'm not either in school or working for a school and thus with, like, 8375849093 deadlines in the second week of December. *g* But I don't quite know what I'd do...

Yes to NaNo. I did it several times in the past when we were doing two week long shows within the month, once even when we were producing one of the shows. I have, therefore, never finished BUT I always got a lot out of the experience. I plan to try again this year with no shows but with a script deadline looming (I'm trying to work on the script now to clear that off my plate, but we shall see if I succeed in getting that done before November rolls around).

In other words, you have nothing to lose.

I *highly* recommend being active on their forum boards and/or going to one of the kick-off meet-ups as I found that really inspiring (I went to one at The Spectrum where people had to bring the first page of whatever they were writing and share it... that was incredibly fun).

If you have an idea and think NaNoWriMo will help you get it on paper, so to speak, why not? I'd be interested in seeing what you come up with.
