In the continuing saga of "Why Netflix is a bad, bad thing," I narrowly avoided the rabbit hole of ALL THE STAR TREKS by stumbling upon a movie that I missed last year (as it never went into release wide enough to reach me). Maybe now, Netflix will add some variety to its current all cartoons, all the time suggestions for me.
#12:
Ceremony - Two friends are off on a weekend outing. Marshall thinks the trip is to re-establish their friendship, but Sam has ulterior motives in mind as he crashes the wedding of a woman he still loves. [imdb]
The main reason I was hoping to see this last year was for Lee Pace, but it also has Michael Angarano and Uma Thurman, and even the guy who's now Nick on The New Girl. A great cast wasn't enough to make this a great movie, or even, sadly, an especially good one. I'll always like Angarano for Sky High -- I really enjoy that movie -- but his character here is really obnoxious. It's hard to sympathize with anyone, really, as their unlikeable qualities far outshine anything redeeming. Pace's character is at least amusing, but it's a caricature as written. Marshall is the only one you want to root for, and even he is kind of bland.
I wasn't expecting much given the lack of wide release, so I'm glad I've now seen it and can not regret missing it last year.
